6 Tips to Save Money During Pregnancy

Pregnant? Check out these money saving tips.

There are some additional expenses that are difficult, if not impossible, to avoid during pregnancy. But today, just about everybody is looking to save money wherever they can. Here are a few suggestions for reducing these extra maternity costs:

If you know a friend or relative who was recently pregnant, find out if they have any maternity clothes they would like to pass on to you.

Mail order a multi month supply of your prenatal vitamins. This method of buying prescription medication is usually at a discount.

Buy empire-waist shirts that can be worn after pregnancy instead of maternity tops.

Buy a pants-extending maternity accessory like the Bella Band in order to wear your pre-pregnancy pants longer.

Shop consignment or thrift stores for maternity fashions.

Purchase maternity items online. A lot of maternity items you find in stores can be found cheaper online. A great example is a nursing bra. You can try them on in the store to find the one you like best; then order it online, typically at a lower price.

There is a great thrift store that I go to where, on Sundays, ALL CLOTHING IS A DOLLAR. The one in my area is called St. Vincent De Paul Thrift store through the Catholic church. It would be worth seeing if there is one in your area.

  3. Coupons online and News papers are very handy! Also I do buy stuff online and there are things very economical for my budget!

I have been “tight” with my money for a while, mainly because I worked full time to put myself through school, so it should be easier for me to save using these tips. Question…. Where are some good places online to find coupons for everything? Seems like when I need something there re none in the paper, then after I buy them the coupons come…

Some money saving ideas from my first baby….. I wore my husbands shirts around the house. I had a few things for when I was out and about but mostly baggy t-shirts and sweatshirts. Oh so comfy. Next I started sizing up baby products by price. Using a calculator and the internet for weekly circulars, I knew what was a good price on baby wipes and diapers. I started looking at coupons and sales. I know how much per diaper and per wipe is a good deal. Next I bought in bulk I had a few things stored away and ready for when baby arrives. Don’t forget about yard sales and hand-me-downs for baby. You can find things like brand new. Also got in the mindset of nursing. Formula is expensive and not nearly as beneficial for baby.

I do this with a hair tie. It works really well with pants with a short zipper and are lower rise, or they don’t zip far enough to be comfortable

This was a bit helpful. I’m already a savings type of person, so I definitely bought maternity clothes at a discount store while they were having a 40% off day lol and I only bought two pairs of pants/jeans and three maternity shirts.

For my second pregnancy I did not need much thanks to a hot summer, the sale racks at Target and Walmart had awesome dresses that fit perfectly. I also did not gain has much weight this time around so a lot of my regular clothes I can still wear with the help of a baby B belly band.

I know a lot of women who use the good ol rubber band trick. They attach a rubber band the the button of their jeans and pull it through. I imagine this can only work for a little while though
