Transitioning Your Child from Crib to Bed: 5 Fun Toddler Beds

The signs of children growing up in my household are everywhere now. The toys are more sophisticated and less colorful. Their clothes are looking too small, and their pants are too short.

The clearest sign that my toddler is growing up way faster than I would like is his transition from his crib to a toddler bed. We lowered the base of his crib when he was 8 months old, but then he started pulling himself up to standing position. When he turned 16 months, we finally moved him out of the master bedroom to his older brother's room. He has tried to climb out of the crib several times, so we decided it was time to take the rails off of one side and put a spare mattress we had lying around next to his now-open crib.

For several weeks now, he's moved from his crib to the mattress in the middle of the night on his own accord. He loves the extra space, and who could blame him? Now, at nearly 2 years old, he is also trying to do everything his older brother does. He is definitely ready for his own big-boy bed.

Now, the fun part starts. Shopping for his big boy bed! We have every intention of letting him choose from a few options we are shortlisting. Involving your child in the process will help with the transition. If you are also in the process of moving your child to his or her own bed, here are five fun beds we found.

Best Practical (And Still Fun) Bed

When you have kids, you come to realize how valuable storage space is. I love this Elora Collections Dream On Me Toddler Day Bed for that very reason. It is designed for kids who no longer fit into cribs, but are too small for an adult bed. This bed features a solid wood frame with a rich cherry finish, and it also has guard rails that take care of your child's safety. My favorite part? The drawers at the bottom for all that precious extra storage space.

Well, my little one does not seem to want to sleep by himself. He is 19months old and I really want him to get his own sleeping space. He is taking over my bed! What I can do? Whenever I move him, he cries and stands up…we’re always battling!
