National Baby Safety Month, sponsored annually by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, is just around the corner (in September). The purpose of Baby Safety Month is to educate parents and caregivers about keeping infants safe and healthy through their early years. But, it's always a great time to brush up on some of our top safety tips and look into these brilliant products that can help you keep your little ones safe!

Tip #1: Always put your baby on his back to sleep; every nap and every night. Since babies spend most of their time sleeping, it is important to focus on a safe sleep environment. One option for safe sleep is using the Miracle Blanket:

The Miracle Blanket is a safe and secure alternative to traditional swaddling. It helps babies sleep better on their backs through 14 weeks and allows freedom of movement from the hips down. Your baby will sleep better, longer, and will be less fussy since he/she will finally get the sleep they (and you) so desperately need. The fabric is a super soft 100% cotton knit that is breathable so that it can be used in warm climates while still being luxurious enough to keep your baby warm in cooler places. Plus, many veteran parents swear this is the only blanket that got their baby to sleep!

Tip #2: Purchase a versatile baby monitor to keep an eye on baby wherever you go. One option is the 100% wireless zooby Car & Home Baby Monitor:

The zooby Car & Home Baby monitor is a must-have for safety conscious parents. The monitor's camera is embedded in a specially designed plush that allows it to be placed anywhere at home (even in a car or on the go!) making it the most portable monitor on the market. With the new large 4.3 split screen version, a parent can even view 2 rear facing infants in the back seat of the car.

Tip #3: Practice child-safe cleaning. Using household cleaners with harsh ingredients doesn't only kill germs and get out tough stains they can also affect your baby's health, causing eczema, airway irritation, eye irritation, allergies, and even poisoning. Tip #4: Buy toys that are age appropriate and meet safety standards. Toys should be large enough so that they can't be swallowed or lodged in the windpipe, free of lead which can be found in paint and plastic, and (if battery-operated) have battery cases that secure with screws so that kids cannot pry them open. Check out the high-quality toys from HABA USA.

HABA's colorful Clutching Toy Rainbow Circles is sure to delight little ones. Six two-toned beech wood beads, colored with a non-toxic water based stain are strung together with sturdy cord to make this the perfect grasping toy for your little inquisitive one. Makes a great baby shower gift!

Another safe, and fun, options is Kleynimals (“clean key animals”) toy keys and flatware. Kleynimals are innovative stainless steel toy keys with adorable animal faces that your child will love. Tip #6: Practice sanitary diaper changing. Diaper changing is the easiest way to spread germs and bacteria between parent and baby, which can lead to serious health concerns. A great way to avoid germs is using the BabyBum Brush.
