Reddit Users Reveal Worst Baby Names They’ve Ever Heard
I am all about naming your baby whatever you want — it's one of the joys of having a baby. For me, I like to choose names that have meaning and aren't embarrassing when you combine it with the last name or the initials don't spell something naughty. My own personal preference for my kids.
Most times, other parents seem to have the same personal rules when it comes to naming their own children — some have more lax rules and others have ones that are more strict. That's one thing that makes baby names so much fun, everyone has an opinion.
Recently, a Reddit user posted asking other users of the site what takes the prize as the “worst name you've seen given to a child,” and the answers are a mix of hilarity, shock, and, at times, hard to believe.
This reddit user said her name is Hermione and she was named before the famous Harry Potter stories. She's heard everything from “how do you say it?”(not the same as the book) to jokes about how many points Gryffindor gets.
One user shared the story of meeting a family who had similar sounding names: they all started with “Walter”.
“Sisters Walterneak, Walternia. I think there's a third, but I don't remember what her awful Walter-ending was and then brothers Walter II and Walter III,” wrote Vaguely_Saunter.
Apparently, it was inspired by a grandparent.
I think this one is unique and, well, serves two purposes. How many names can do that? Reddit user told the story of how they came across this name while working at the bank.
“I work at a bank in North Florida and have been keeping a list of names I come across. My favorite so far is definitely “I'munique.” It was on her ID and everything,” the Reddit user wrote.
I have no hate for this name and think it's pretty cute, but the spelling may be a bit off. The Reddit user said this name was given after being inspired by the too common name “Paisley,” and the parents wanted a little more pizzazz.
If you were to just look at the word without knowing what it actually means (noun; the fact or practice of restraining oneself from indulging in something, typically alcohol or sex), it sounds pretty. But more should go into a name decision than just the way it sounds, and Abstinence has some definite meanings behind it.
This name is familiar — in the world of cosmetics. The Reddit user, who names this the worst name, also revealed that it was for a baby boy — another unexpected twist.
