Real Moms Share: The Best Parts About Pregnancy
There's no doubt about it — we all experience pregnancy a little differently.
For some of us, pregnancy is the best time in our lives. For others, it's about gritting our teeth and moving one swollen ankle after the other toward the finish line.
But there are some pretty amazing parts about being pregnant. Real moms share what they loved most about pregnancy:
By far, this was the #1 answer given by the moms I surveyed.
“I didn't mind being pregnant at all. I could have been pregnant longer than the 39 weeks that I was,” explains mom of two Alicia Gwizdala. “I think the best part is knowing you are growing a miracle inside your belly and feeling those little kicks and movements inside that brings you closer to your bundle of joy each time.”
“Everyone being so nice and courteous to you!” exclaims blogger Kristel Acevdeo of Glowing Light. “Holding doors, letting you skip lines, etc.”
I have to agree with Kristel on this one and say that I miss it. Now that my children are firmly ex-utero, people aren't so nice to me anymore! If someone holds the door for my giant double stroller, I want to kiss their feet in gratitude. Well, not really, but you know what I mean.
Lauren Hartmann, a blogger and mom of two, is a woman after my own heart. The best part of pregnancy for her? “Never having to suck in your stomach,” she says. “Ha!”
Doug Johnson, a stay-at-home dad of five, gives us a refreshing perspective on the best part of pregnancy from the male standpoint.
“I love my wife's round belly,” he explains. “I told my friend when his wife was expecting their first that he might be surprised at how much more attracted he would be to his wife. He said I was right. It's like a magnet to your hand sometimes.”
Say it with me ladies: awwwwww.
If we may be real for just a moment, for a lot of women, the best part about pregnant is definitely the end — and the sweet, sweet reward of holding that newborn baby in your arms.
“The ‘best' part is the excruciating pain of delivery!” laughs Leigha Campbell. “Knowing it's over was a big deal to me.” And K.J. Dell'Antonia of The New York Times takes it even one step further. The best part of pregnancy for her? “When the kid turns 6,” she notes wryly.
