Grocery shopping is a necessary chore that every family needs to do. But if you take the time to get yourself organized before you head out to the store, you'll save yourself time on this weekly errand and you'll save money too because you will only buy exactly what you need! In this post I am going to share with you my favorite tips on how to organize grocery shopping- as well as a free printable grocery list that you can download!

Tip #1: Use An Organized Shopping List

I print 10 copies of the EverydayFamily Grocery Shopping List (click on the link to print yours!) at a time and place them on a clipboard which I keep in my kitchen. The printable grocery list is organized by aisle/section of the grocery store and every time I run out of an item or notice something is running low, I will add it to my shopping list in the appropriate section.

Keeping a list organized by section of the store makes it so much faster to get in /out of the store! You only have to focus on one section of your list at a time, and since you can make sure you grab everything you need at that time- there's no going back to aisles you've already visited!

Now the key is to make sure that your whole family adds things to the list as they are used up. My kids know that if they take that last granola bar from the box, there's not going to be any more granola bars in the pantry next week if they don't remember to add it to the list!

Tip #2: Scan the Store's Circular Before You Leave Home

Whether you grab it out of the Sunday paper or look for it online, always make sure to review the store's circular before you head out to the store. That way you can be sure to take advantage of what's on sale this week and stock up.

If you are a coupon clipper (and I sure am!), combining the store's sales price with a coupon will always get you the best deal. You can use the website Living Rich with Coupons to help you find online coupons that match up with your store's sales prices quickly.

Tip #3: Make a Menu Plan

A menu plan doesn't need to be anything fancy (like you might find on Pinterest!) … so even if you just jot it down on a piece of paper, be sure to take the time to think ahead to the coming week and decide what you plan to serve for dinner each night. Then make sure you have the needed ingredients on hand or add them to your shopping list (in the appropriate sections!) so you can pick up everything you need while you are there.

Remember: limiting your trip to the grocery store to only once per week will not only save you time – but will also save you money!
