When you begin looking for pregnancy and baby clothing and gear, it can seem overwhelming. With so much to choose from, how do you know what the best option is? With everything out there you may wonder whether there's a reason to be interested in another brand joining the market. But once you check out the new arrival from the UK, we think you'll agree that it's worth getting excited about JoJo Maman Bébé joining the US baby market.
So what's the deal, you ask?
It's a growing company, started and still run by a mother who wanted the best for her own babies.
In fact, since 1993, the company has grown from a tiny one woman start-up to its current size with 70 stores and 700 employees. Founder and CEO Laura Tenison has won numerous awards and been awarded honorary degrees from several universities.
They value your time as much as you do.
Originally a catalog-based shop, when they began expanding into storefronts it was with the idea of becoming the neighborhood shop that mothers could go to for all of the maternity and baby needs. Now they are coming to the US through catalogs and the web, offering a collection of carefully curated products that parents love.
They are about more than the bottom line.
The company managed charity, the Nema Foundation, works to reduce child poverty in rural northern Mozambique. 100% of donations to the charity are spent on the ground, with JoJo covering employees' salaries and handling bookkeeping, accountancy, marketing, and fundraising.
Their charity has built three schools (with a fourth under construction), bought two ambulances, funded 100 secondary school scholarship places, feed 1,000 children a day a nutritious school meal, and engage in water, health, sanitation, and enterprise projects.
They know that babies will one day grow up.
So they do their best to care for the planet. They use recycled materials and make responsible environmental choices in the production of their products. They also run an annual recycling campaign called ‘From a Mother to Another', which encourages parents to gift their good quality and sometimes never worn outgrown baby and children's clothing. The items are delivered into JoJo stores and assembled into emergency clothing packs, which are distributed to children in need including Syrian Refugees in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon – a distribution network recently set up when they visited the area to assess how they could help. Through this program, JoJo saved 50,000 pieces of clothing from going to landfill and made up 4,000 packs for families in need.
They've got products we love for mamas and babies!
