When I think of a classic boy's name that has stood the test of time and fits no matter what year we're in, Jack always comes to mind. It's the perfect name for a boy that grows with him when he becomes a man and has the ability to pair with any name style and last name, too.

But, since it's so perfect, it's also really popular and sometimes that means you have to come up with an alternative to your top choice.

If you're a big fan of the name Jack (and let's face it, who isn't?) but someone close to you beat you to the name, here are five alternatives that are just as great to choose from.

This another name that's pretty, too, but not seen as often as Jack and has an older feel to it. If you have a close friend or family member who beat you to the name Jack, this is a really, really close second.

James isn't an unusual name and it's one of those that doesn't turn heads if you come across someone with the name. With this, you get the same J-feel and sound, but you won't be competing with nearly as many people.

You can't really get much closer to the name Jack than Jaxon or Jackson, how ever you choose to spell it. This name has a harder feel to it and the fun part about choosing this alternative is when your child gets older, they can always go by Jack as a short-form of their real name.

This isn't a very common name, which is why it's a good name to consider apart from Jack. It has that shorter name feel to it – which means it goes really well if you have a longer last name – and it's got just the right amount of different if you like something more unusual.

According to Baby Center, this name sits at No. 206 in popularity and it's actually down six spots from last year. That's the perfect spot for any parent who likes to have a name that's easy to pronounce and spell, but you won't find them at the souvenir shops in every tourist town.
