6 Baby Names I Predict Will Fade Out This Year

When I look through the popular baby names lists year after year, there are some names that make the cut every year: Sophia, Jackson, Aiden, and Emily are so popular right now, I'm not sure when or if they'll ever drop from their top spots.

If you take a look at some of the fastest rising names each year, you'll find inspiration in popular movies, TV characters, or new pop culture slang. It's a common place that parents-to-be look for name inspiration, but in my experience, their popularity doesn't tend to stick around as long as those classic names do.

If you take a look through the fastest rising baby names of 2014, I predict we won't be seeing the same shoot to fame this year because we're all over the names already. Click through and read the six baby names I predict will no longer be as popular this year:

The Netflix show Orange is the New Black premiered their second season in 2014, and we got to watch along as the main character, Piper, met new challenges in jail. The show has been a big hit, and because of it, so has the baby name Piper. While the show is still awesome, I predict the name will phase out this year.

If you're a fan of the HBO show Game of Thrones, you heard a lot of this name (albeit with the less-used spelling Margaery) through 2014 as we saw the character rise, fall, and rise again — she's one of my favorites and clearly so for others as well. This name shot up in popularity over the past few years, but I think it's going to be very short lived.

Christian has never really been an unpopular baby name, but with the hit book-turned-movie 50 Shades of Grey, we've seen a big rise for this name. I predict that not only is the movie going to be a big flop, but we'll see this name take the plunge in popularity, too.

Unless you've been away from all Internet and news sources through 2014, you'll have noticed the hit that was Disney's Frozen, and because of the popularity, the name Elsa has been tremendous. I have a feeling that, this year, we won't see the same use of this name because it's time to let it go!

A surprise name that rose to popularity was Everest — a continuation of the very popular “destination name” trend. This one was unexpected but rose 70% in popularity. This year, given that overall the names of places are down in popularity, I don't think this one will stick around much longer.

This is another name choice that can trace inspiration from Disney's Frozen that became a bit hit throughout 2014 when we saw the popularity rise, even though he's not one of the main characters (or particularly likeable!). This name has never really been off the radar for people, but I don't think we will see it's popularity spike like this for a while.
