5 Places to Find Middle Name Inspiration
Coming up with the perfect baby name for your child can feel like a lot of pressure – and when you factor in the middle name, there are even more decisions to make. The name is one of the few ways your child can make a first impression – even before meeting someone – so many considerations should be made first.
Middle names are not necessary, but they're fun and have been around for a long time. Some people choose one middle name for their child, others have two or even more so when you're thinking of the name for your child – you can't forget their full name.
If you're looking at a middle name for your child and you're not sure what to choose yet, there are many places you can find inspiration for the most perfect middle name.
When it came to deciding on my children's middle names, we looked to our family tree. Choosing a name that is the same or similar to a parent, grandparent, or another relative who means a lot to you can be a great way to honor someone important to you and create easy-to-find names for your child.
If you're not sure of a middle name and you don't have a family member you'd like to honor by using their name, you can always get the name from a random generator. If you just want a name that sounds great with your chosen first name, you may just need to hear a name to know it's the one.
That super unique name you love
As you all know, I am a big fan of unique names, but some of you may have some reservations. If there's a name that is maybe a little “out there,” not typically used for your child's gender, or it's just not the type of name you usually go for – use it as a middle name. This way, you can still use the name you love without it being the one most often used.
The top ten lists
Popular baby names are popular for a reason; they're well-loved names that sound great. If you love a name on the list, but you don't want your child to be the third child with the same name in their class at school, a middle name is the perfect way to incorporate that great name.
Your maiden name
If your child is going to have your partner's last name, you may want to consider using your maiden name as your child's middle name. It's a great way to include some of your family history and traditions and so many last names lend themselves well to be first names. While this won't work for all last names (like mine), there are ways to tweak names so they can even be inspired by your maiden name if your full one just doesn't have the right ring to it.
