5 Non-Cake Gender Reveal Ideas

Pregnant with my fourth child, I was looking for a fun way to “spice things up” a bit when it came time to finding out the sex of our baby.

Of course, what was forefront on my mind was simply a wish for a healthy baby to check out with all the right bits and pieces during the ultrasound, but I am not past admitting that I was also a teensy bit excited to find out just who would be joining our family. Would it be another girl to join her two older sisters or a playmate for our youngest, a boy who loves tractors and dirt?

In the days leading up to my ultrasound, you could pretty much find me on Pinterest, gathering up ideas to reveal the baby's gender, like …

Silly string!

Forget the frosting, this adorable idea takes the cake in its own right. Cans of carefully disguised silly string await guests on opposite ends of the boy/girl spectrum and then, when the moment is right, spray away! Check out the excitement of how fun a silly string party can be at Front Porch Sittin' with the Fentons.

Bubble gum!

It only makes sense to celebrate a new baby with something as equally sweet, right? To pull of this quirky gender reveal, you can either ask a photographer to reveal the big moment to you, as this couple did, capturing the reveal in pictures, or make it even more exciting with different colored gum and “burst the bubble,” so to speak!

Let your belly do the talking.

We had everyone over to the house,” said EverydayFamily community member Laura. “I had [written] girl on my belly in washable marker and then lifted up my shirt to show my belly. We also had cake after that said ‘Welcome Alexandra.' Now, we are currently pregnant with our second. Not sure what we will do this time around!”

Record it.

I love this idea from EverydayFamily community member atothedbly. “We recorded a video [of us] telling our 3-year-old and then posted it to Facebook for everyone to watch ๐Ÿ™‚ His reaction was priceless, so it was perfect!”

I have been on Pinterest, as well, looking around and shower and gender reveal ideas. I saw one that I fell in love with as well as my fiance. At our appointment we will have the doctor mark the gender on a piece of paper that we will have for them and then seal it in the envelope. We will then go to Babies R Us and pick out 2 outfits: one for a boy, one for a girl (which we then decided that that outfit will be the one we bring them home in ๐Ÿ™‚ ). The cashier will be given the outfits and the envelope to wrap the corresponding outfit as we are turned around. Then we will have party and open it together ๐Ÿ™‚ I am super excited! And of course…we’ll have the cake. ๐Ÿ™‚
