When we think about pregnancy, we focus on the happy times–and there are a lot of them. The moment we find out we're pregnant, that first kick, our changing shape, and, eventually, bringing home our healthy newborn. For many women and families, this ideal perfection is not the route their pregnancy goes, and instead, they're left grieving the loss of their child through miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal loss.

According to the March of Dimes, miscarriage ends 15% of pregnancies, 1 out of every 160 babies are born silent, and 19,000 babies die within their first month of life on average in the United States. Those are not joyful statistics, but the reality is many families are affected and are grieving the loss of their baby and need support.

The topic of perinatal grief is not entirely understood or accepted, but there are some communities online that offer support, resources, and a sense of understanding that can be instrumental to families while they grieve. If you or someone you know is grieving the loss of their baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal loss, here are four online support sites to bookmark:

Pregnancy After Loss Support

One of the realities of perinatal loss is that subsequent pregnancies are no longer the same. Families are faced with the worries and “what ifs” and can no longer live in the “it won't happen to me” place because, well, it has. Pregnancy after loss can be a challenging time for families, but having support through it can make a world of difference.
