Moms get a bad rap when it comes to style.

Mom jeans, mom shoes, mom hair — these are all things we've heard, and none of them are good!

Personally, I think being a stylish mom isn't that hard of a task. Yes, I have those days where Snuggie life is my life, but I clean up well, and I do it often. Possibly it's because my closet is appropriately stocked.

You don't have to be about that Snuggie life either.

Something that makes her feel good. It fits, it flatters, it is in good condition, and you love it. Every woman needs this go-to piece of clothing in their closet for those days when everything else is feeling kind of blech.

A good pair of jeans. Everyone needs a good pair that fits well, and they don't have to break the bank. Believe it or not, my $20 jeans are by far my favorite pair (seen in the photo above).

A pair of knee-high boots. They are just so versatile. They can be dressed up or down, and they make the perfect addition to every woman's wardrobe. I have a pair of wedged ones that allow me to have the best of both worlds — they give me the lift of a heel, but they walk around like a flat!

Cute flats. Because heels are only fun when you have no one to chase after and no reason to stand up for hours on end — so basically while you are sitting at your desk. The rest of the time, a cute flat might be just what you need in your life.

A going-out sweatshirt. It can have a hood if you want it to, but I say skip it, and it will make you look more “I meant to wear this” and less “I am wearing this because the effort to dress like a grown-up was just too much for this day.”

The jogger trend has brought to the style game clothing that is comfortable, but somehow slightly more stylish and wearable than sweats and the college hoodie you spend most of your evenings in.

Chic Booties. Another item that is just too versatile not to be included in your living-the-mom-life arsenal. I have at least five pair that all make it into my regular style rotation.

A blazer. Even if you don't work in an office, it is a piece of clothing that will make so many of your outfits complete. It's perfect for turning you from standard, everyday mom to professional (but still totally a mom.)

A church dress. That's what I call my sensible dress that I can wear to things where I need to look, um, sensible. It is modest, it fits well, and it is a classic style that I can wear to an interview or a funeral should the need arise.

A denim jacket. Because you're going to get cold, and you will look much more intentional and grown-up-lady-like if you put a cute jacket on over your sun dress than if you huddle in that hoodie you dug out of your trunk.

A good pair of yoga pants. Let's face: you're going to find yourself at the grocery store buying Pediasure and Popsicles in them one night. You don't have to do that job in crotchless yoga pants. Have a decent pair that has no stains, no worn spots, no tears, and a fully intact crotch, so when you run into your son's school principal, you don't have to be all awkward and avoidy when you try to hide yourself behind a bread rack.
