10 Moms Share Their Biggest Indulgences

As moms, we're supposed to be all self-sacrificing martyrs, right?

“No, no, you have that last piece of pie;” “I'm fine. I'm not even cold in the slightest;” “Oh I wasn't hungry anyways …”

But yeah. All that martyrdom comes with a price. It's been my suspicion for a long time that in order to pull off the whole motherhood gig, many of us have a deep, dark secret that keeps us running full steam ahead.

And just what is that guilty little secret, you ask?

These moms are spilling the beans on their biggest indulgences — from manicures to wine to more than one shoe addiction — that keep us keepin' on to care for the ones that call us by our most important title: Mom. I love how different all of these answers are and how each one of us has a little secret indulgence that's just for us.

“Getting my hair did,” confesses Megan Doherty. “Every 8-10 weeks! That's the one thing I couldn't give up. Hell, I've actually taken the babe with me …”

And allow me to just say, dang, if that's not the cutest picture I've ever seen.

“Massages!” says Mary Beth Jacobson, a mom of one. “Especially since I am a massage therapist, treating myself every once in a while is a must. I have taken the babe with me as well (it's my current condition). I went first while my mom watched her.”

“With six under my care, my indulgence is a quiet car ride (not even music, just nothing!), a hot coffee, and no calls or texts asking when I am going to be home,” explains mom of many Kristine Ginther. “Walking any aisle of whichever store I choose to meander, and it usually involves me buying myself something (a shirt, a piece of art or decor for the house, even if it's something I need such as shampoo).

“I get the occasional pedicure, but I indulge myself with silence whenever I can.”

“Two fine men: Ben & Jerry,” laughs Brittany Vall, a mom of three and blogger at The Lily Field. “[And] Target. So cliche. But the best thing I do every week is take personal/alone time away from my husband and kids. Just a couple hours. Wild momma on the town!”

“My gym time — and my makeup,” says mom of five Joanna Schlaud, who happens to also be a cosmetologist. “I don't go cheap on my makeup.”

“Mine would be going to the gym, wine, and shoes!” says mom of one Amber Hyek. “I love a good pair of stilettos. I know they are not everyday shoes, but I might need them if we have a date night!”

Girl's got a point. It's hard not to feel good in a nice pair of stilettos.

Yoga, wine, music, and Epsom salt baths with oils. Especially in the same night!”– Cheyenne Crawford-Brodt

Sounds like a winning combination to me.

“Drinks. Hard cider, wine, and good gin for making cocktails. Mama needs her evening sanity,” confesses Lauren Hartmann, blogger at The Little Things We Do and a mom of soon-to-be three, on her biggest indulgence when she's not preggers.

“Mine is hair, too,” says Andrea Owen, a mom of two, author, and life coach. “$140 every six weeks. Aaaand I just started seeing an esthetician for a chemical peel.” *cough* “I mean just a facial. Because … 40.”

“Once a week, my mother-in-law picks up my daughter, and instead of cleaning I usually Netflix binge!” laughs Leigha Campbell. “I know I should be more productive, but to sit in silence and watch that TV without any interruptions is bliss.”
