10 Adorable Baby Names and Their Perfect Nicknames

You could say I have a (healthy) obsession with baby names, because even though the chances of us having another child are super slim, I still love thinking about the perfect names.

If you're planning to expand your family, are in the process of it, or are like me and just love names, there are a lot of considerations to be made when choosing the perfect name. For me, I don't care much for names that can be shortened–nicknames aren't my thing. Not everyone is me, though, and some of you may be searching for the perfect name and an equally adorable nickname.

There are benefits of picking a name that has a nickname to go with it; your child has two names to choose from that can change as they get older. Nicknames are cute for younger kids, and while some totally stand on their own well into adulthood, having a full name to go by later can be a great safeguard option.

If you're on the hunt for a baby name that's adorable and perfect but also has an adorably perfect nickname to go along with it, here are my 10 top picks:

I love the name Abigail because it's not too common, but it's a totally classic name that won't ever go out of style.

The perfect nickname: Abby is a name that can stand on its own, too!

I think the name Evelyn is gorgeous and sounds like a glamorous movie star.

The perfect nickname: Evie is a sweet name that you don't hear often.

Edith is a more old-school name that hasn't been a popular choice for a long time. It's a strong name that I think is a wonderful choice.

The perfect nickname: Edie is a more modern take on Edith, and it can stand on its own with ease.

Cassandra is one of those names you really don't hear a lot, but I think it's beautiful, and with its not being too common, you'll have the bonus of your child likely being the only one in their group of friends.

The perfect nickname: Sadie is a name that many are choosing as a stand-alone name, but it can work for as a short from of Cassandra.

This name is perfect because it's not overused, but it's not one that will get your child's name on the “what were they thinking?” list.

The perfect nickname: Tessa is such a cute name and surely will be one that stands out among the crowd.

Gabriel is a name that stands out from the pack because it's adorable and masculine at the same time.

The perfect nickname: Gabe is a name I didn't realize was a nickname because it's not unusual for this to be the full name. Two names in one!

I love this name so much because it's so not common and it just sounds cool. It isn't too unique, but it has just the perfect amount of flair.

The perfect nickname: Huck is such a fun name. You can't really pass it up!

This name is old school, but it's adorable all on its own.

The perfect nickname: Theo is a sweet, adorable nickname for the full name.

This name is classic, and yet it's not terribly so common where your child will have a few in his classes growing up. It's a cute name with a cute nickname to go with it.

The perfect nickname: Eli is a name that is both adorable and can work well for a grown adult.

I mean, how can you pass up a name like this one? You just sound important, and it's one that no one will forget.

The perfect nickname: Max has become a really common name, but you don't hear the full name often.
