My Pregnancy Week 20

Brought to you by
Pregnancy Week 20

Your baby is now about the length of a cantaloupe. Can you believe it? She is now around 6 ½ inches long, and weighs almost 10 1/2 ounces! If you are having twins, they are each about seven and a half inches long, and weigh close to one pound each.

Your baby can also hear sounds. At 20 weeks, he can cover his ears with his hands if the sounds are too loud, and he may even “jump” inside your womb if any sounds startle him. The hair on his scalp is also growing.

She is also moving around a lot inside you. Remember, if this is your first pregnancy, or if you have a larger frame, you may not yet feel these movements. If you haven’t felt anything yet, you should in the coming weeks. Many times, these first movements are described as a flutter, or may feel like bubbles or gas. If you can feel your baby moving and shifting inside of you this week, you may be becoming aware of her sleep cycles.

  1. Withlin says:

It must have been a female who made this. Not every baby in the womb is a girl. Every week says “she” like they already know the sex of the baby.

  2. Maxxia says:

Hi! I have enjoyed receiving the weekly updates of the physique of my baby and what to expect. I love it! It’s uplifting. Tomorrow my husband and I find out the sex of our precious one. I am 5 months pregnant and I actually only started showing visibly through my clothes a round belly last week. I was concerned that I’m too small, but then looking in the mirror I see this full huge balloon when I look at my body. That was a wake up call. Today I woke up tired amd heavy. I’m really feeling pregnant today! Lol. My belly is round and lowering. Sleeping is becoming a nightmare! I’m open to suggestions.
    Thanks for the open discussions.

  3. Aaron says:

Hi, I am 20 weeks today with my 6th. I found out at 15 weeks I am having a boy, I have four girls and one boy now. I was kind of disappointed cuz I wanted another girl, mine are older now. This was unexpected and I haven’t even told my kids yet, well I told my 15 year old because she is the rational one. I am afraid to tell my father, my mother passed 13 years ago. I have no real support system, the dad is, as awful as I know this sounds, one of three. I was with three friends, one being my ex also my son’s father. I feel like a piece of garbage right now. I am 36 so I should have known better, I was just being stupid at the time. I guess I am just looking for some support to help me get through.

    • Leigh says:

This is my very first baby and he is going to be a boy!

    • Megan Klay says:

Congratulations to you on your pregnancy! I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling, but sometimes out of the worst places the best things happen. Your son will likely be that best thing! Hopefully you’re able to focus on taking care of yourself and him. I’m sure your other children will be excited for a baby to have fun with! I would look to see if there are support networks for mothers in your area so you can hopefully connect with other mothers in similar situations to help one another. Just remember that beating yourself up does no one any good. You’ve got this! Best wishes for you and your family!

    • Symmieona says:

Hey honey shit happens. Nobody is perfect. There are ppl who don’t know either of thier child’s fathers. You stay strong.

  4. Vutivi says:

I’m 20 weeks and 1 day and its my second pregnancy. Last week I found out I’m having a girl. well, I must be honest I was a bit disappointed as I was hoping for a boy but a lady at the pharmacist told me to be grateful as she herself is asking God for any child. I was hurt and from there, I started to like the news. Now I can’t wait to meet my bundles of joy. My daughter is also excited.

  5. Chardee says:

I’m 20 weeks and 4 days. I found out I’m having a boy and yes this is my first! This journey is amazing and comes with so many emotions!

  6. Jessica says:

I’m 20 weeks and three days pregnant with my fourth baby. My sons are 11 & 4. I had a miscarriage Jan of this year. My boyfriend is coming out to see me for a few days. I asked him to go the er with me to get checked. I have being traveling with work and haven’t had much time to get checked. My question is since this not his baby should I have the ultrasound done by myself or have him in the room when it’s done? I want to surprise him with the gender of the baby. What do our suggest. I wanna make this mysterious and fun as possible.

I have a question. Is it normal that my baby weighs about 13 ounces at 19 weeks?

    • Megan Klay says:

Hi Samantha – While there is an average, baby weight can certainly vary. Give your doctor’s office a call to discuss or bring your concern up at your next visit. Best wishes!
