Ovulation Prediction with Saliva

The test for pregnancyIf the idea of taking your temperature every day and checking your cervical mucus seems like a bit much, then perhaps you want an alternative. Perhaps it’s time to consider an ovulation monitor that uses your saliva to predict when you are most fertile.

The basic premise of saliva ovulation predictors is that they measure changes in the electrolytes that are present in your saliva. While it is not quite as easy as using a thermometer, saliva ovulation predictors have been proven to be fairly accurate – so it can improve your chances of conceiving.

Using Saliva for Ovulation Prediction

Remember when you were in biology class and you would have a sample of something on a slide, which you then examined under a microscope? Saliva monitoring is much the same. You place some saliva on the slide and then view it through a microscope which has an LED light. Through the microscope you can view changes in the saliva that indicate fertility.

When you are ovulating your saliva will appear in a crystal-like pattern through the microscope. Just prior to ovulation you will see this pattern start so you will have time to prepare. Your saliva will have a full crystal pattern when your fertility peaks and will appear as dots and lines the remainder of the time.

Why Use Saliva Ovulation Prediction

This method is perfect for anyone who wants to increase the chances of conception. Whether you have tried other methods and they haven’t worked or prefer the idea of “seeing” your fertility, this is a good choice. The accuracy rate of this type of fertility prediction system is about 98% – so you get the maximum chance of timing intercourse with ovulation.

Testing takes just a few minutes, and you only need to test in the 5-7 days leading up to your ovulation date, rather than through your whole cycle like some other monitoring methods. You also don’t have to pee on anything, which is a definite bonus.
