Morning Sickness or Nausea

For most mothers to be, morning sickness is probably the most common, and sadly the most frequent of pregnancy discomforts. It affects about 50% to 80% of pregnant women, usually developing around the 5th week and ending about 10 weeks later. Unfortunately, nausea or vomiting during pregnancy (NVP) is not confined to the morning, as its common name implies; it actually may occur at various unexpected times throughout the day. It is important to know which remedies work best for you to relieve the discomforts of NVP any time it may occur.

You should ask your doctor about vitamin B6 and ginger supplements which may help ease NVP.

Morning Sickness
If morning sickness is especially bad for you, one way to ease the feeling of nausea is to try eating some plain crackers or dry cereal before getting out of bed. You should also try to wake up slowly, staying in bed long enough for the nausea to settle.

Odor Control

Heat can agitate feelings of nausea, so avoid warm places. A good way to keep fresh air flowing is to leave windows open or to use exhaust fans to refresh and circulate the air. In the kitchen, a good way to control odors that contribute to NVP is by using the microwave more often to heat meals or snacks. Cooking foods in the microwave may emit fewer odors than cooking in the oven or on the stovetop.

Eating Habits
Instead of a few big meals, it may be better for you to eat approximately 6 smaller meals evenly spread throughout the day. Eating something salty before meals and avoiding greasy or spicy foods may help divert nausea. Another way to keep nausea away after mealtime is by not drinking fluids with your meals.

Also, you should try taking your prenatal vitamins later in the day. You should ask your doctor about vitamin B6 and ginger supplements which may help ease NVP. In addition, sipping on non-caffeinated drinks like ginger or peppermint teas, or fizzy water with lemon in it, can also help calm nausea.

    I was afraid of getting second-time pregnant just for the reason of morning sickness that sucked me during my first pregnancy. When I got pregnant, I was expecting the same situation and it became. A friend suggested no to morning sickness tea. LOL! it worked and my morning sickness vanished.

    My daughter had the awful morning sickness. There is hope at the end. But until that happenings there is a way to get through it. She did a google search and it said to take B 12 complex.It won’t hurt the baby at all. She does that and swears it is true. Ginger ale helps as well the ginger snap cookies. Any mint gum or even mint candy helps the heart burn.

  3. I had morning sickness up to 26 weeks pregnant, it got so bad i was admitted into the hospital for dehydration. I couldnt do much about it, i would drink lemon water to help, or just eat crackers all day. I was just S.O.L.

    I am almost 5 weeks and haven’t really experience and morning sickness yet. I do have a reaction to my boyfriend’s cologne, told him to take it easy on it from now on.

    5 weeks and 4 days and queezy… esp. with smells, they make me gag… I knew I ‘felt’ pregnant within the first three days of conception even though this is my first 🙂

    Haven’t had nausea too bad yet, although eating protien when nauseous has really helped

    I’m 8 weeks and have been feeling nausea for about 6 weeks. I will tell ya it’s not fun getting married
    And knowing how sick I was!
    We didn’t even know we were expecting until last week!

    I am 5 weeks and 6 days. I have felt nausea over the last couple of weeks, but today was the first day of purging. Not excited about this, I hope it subsides soon!

    the strange thing is that I am pregnant with our 3rd baby. We are at week 5 today, but I have been nauseous since about day 3. Is that even possible?

    So, I’m pregnant with my second child. 5 weeks along. My first baby, I didn’t really experience morning sickness, ever. I was slightly nauseous a lot but it wasn’t anything TUMS couldn’t take care of for me. Here in my second pregnancy, I haven’t thrown up at all but, I seem to be pooping a lot more than usual. Could this be a different "form" or morning sickness??

    I am 11 weeks 1 day and I still haven’t experienced any nausea or morning sickness. In a weird way I kind of feel left out.

    I have a severe morning sickness that I have to take every day, two times a day. It started my 5th week and is still continuing, and from today I am 14 weeks pregnant. It Definitely Sucks!

    I have acid reflex and omg thats uncomfortable thats like wanting to throw but cant its very annoying n fustrating

    I had lots of nausea in the first couple months, but I’ve only vomited three times during my whole pregnancy.

  20. Im in week five and no morning sickness yet .. I have had a few stomach pains and a lil sick feeling inmy stomach but nothing to major I m really watching what I eat nothing greasy or spicy lots of liquids and veggies and tons of orangess.. We ll have to see how it goes.

    I had morning sickness all day long, everyday for the first 2 months of my pregnancy. The the next 4 months it was just certain smells (cinnamon mostly) that made me sick. And now in month 8 I am no longer getting sick.

    I haven’t experience morning sickness and this is my first pregnancy. But u ladies might want to try eating peanut butter I read and have talk to women who says it helps them.

    My savior was a "Pregnancy Trail Mix" I made and carried around to keep the nausea down. My trail mix consisted of walnuts from the cooking isles at grocery stores, butter toffee flavored almonds for my sweet tooth, honey teddy grahams, raisins and dried mango pieces, and cinnamon life cereal. Also carrying around some honey lemon cough drops helped extremely when I couldnt snack where I was at.

    I was voting for no morning sickness this time around. I stayed sick the whole nine months with my daughter (partly due to bad gallbladder), was really hoping this time would be better.
