Looking HOT in Maternity Clothing

Pregnancy is a time when you go through a wide range of changes. One of the most noticeable changes will be your figure. There is no avoiding it – you will get bigger. We've rounded up some maternity style tips for you, because while it is hard to look “hot” when you are feeling like a blimp, choosing the right clothes and accessorizing can make you look sexy, instead of frumpy.

Wearing a dress while you are pregnant can make you feel pretty, and offers a light clothing choice during the hottest months.

Jeans. The days of blue, ugly, stretchable bands at the top of maternity jeans are long gone. Most maternity retailers offer a skin-colored, thin band that doesn’t leave a line across your tummy. There are also low-rise jeans, which are great for the very beginning of your pregnancy, as well as jeans that have side panels, which extend as you grow. Picking jeans that flatter your belly, butt, and legs, is important. Visit maternity stores that offer a belly pillow, to see how you will look as you get bigger.

Shirts. Your shirt does not need to look like a circus tent, draping over your belly. Pick shirts that are stretchy and form-fitting to accentuate, not hide, your bump. If you are uncomfortable with the rolls you may have developed in your back and sides, chose fabrics that have ruffles or a bias cut to camouflage the flaws you see; you can also layer a cardigan or open sweater to cover your back and sides. Another side-effect of being pregnant is larger breasts. Choose a shirt that accentuates your new breasts, but make sure it doesn't look like you are about to pop out of your top.

Dresses. Wearing a dress while you are pregnant can make you feel pretty, and offers a light clothing choice during the hottest months. Make sure the dress still fits well in the front and back as you get bigger (the front may become shorter and unflattering). Empire waists are flattering on most pregnant women, because they fit tightly around the bust and flow out over the belly.

I have noticed I have to have longer shirts. With the length I don’t feel like I could flash my belly or rear on accident.

  2. Alanna says:

I’m celebrating my bump and going out of my comfort zone with the way I dress myself.

I’ve been on dresses and leggings. Never tried the belly band.

I totally agree with the belly band, or even a higher quality one that gives more back and belly support. Just use one! 🙂

Also, I love my belly band. I don’t know what I would do without it, and recommend one to everyone!

super itchy and makes you into a furnace, as if you didnt get enough hot flashes right?

The problem for me is I’m 22 and still small enough to wear juniors size 3 clothes…they dont exactly make maternity clothes in juniors ize 3 so i cant hold any of the pants up at , the belly band was itchy and made me overheat…I seriously just ended up wearing yoga pants and jammies and nursing tops or tank tops i didnt care about stretching when I was pregnant before. Gonna have a little bit more of an issue this time around cause it’ll be summer and I have no idea what to go with this time. I have a feeling I’ll be spending my days in maxi dresses or unzipped shorts

I am so not comfortable in the new jeans/ pants they offer for maternity. 🙁 the cami- like stretch makes my stomach upset and I always feel like throwing up after 3-5 hours of wearing them. I fit in the jeans, I dont wear tight cloths and I’ve even tried on a size that was bigger but they are too big and the band was still too tight. I love old navy jeans where the band is under my belly and is made of jean material! these are so hard to find in my area:(

What exactly is a belly band?

  12. A belly band works miracles 🙂

I bought a belly band from target for $14.99 and it has been a life saver! I just wear it at the top of my pre-pregnancy jeans and I love it!

  14. I hate getting dressed in the morning. The only thing that is comfortable for me is sweat pants and baggy shirts. I miss getting dressed up and feeling pretty =[ It’s just too exhausting to try and find something that looks somewhat decent at this point.

    I’m a sexy pregnant-

  16. Michelle says:

I’m only 4 months but my hips, thighs, and butts have gotten bigger and are continuing to grow. I’m barely fitting into my pants or shorts. I recently bought shorts in a size medium and now 2 weeks later their tight lol

  17. marylove says:

I have to say, if you are short like myself, empire waist dresses look awful! Skirt and a few nice shirts/ tanktops work way better!

  18. McKenzie says:

I used to be a size 3 in jeans now I am a size 5 at 5 months. It is also hard for me because I have not had a baby in 4 years so all these changes are hard plus feel like dashavue again! I know I am not fat and I am just growing a baby inside of me but I feel fat and my self esteem is low thinking this way. My fiance trys to say you are beautiful not fat! It’s just hard anyone else feel this way?

  19. hunter says:

i cant stand maternity pants but since my thighs have gotten bigger with my pregnancy i have had to get bigger sizes in shorts that arent maternity, not the most flattering thing. 🙁 but i’ve found the belly band works wonders 🙂

Its hard to find shirts that are long enough!
