How to Prepare Your Home and Nursery for Twins or Multiples
If your nursery is short on space, look for furniture that doubles as storage, such as storage benches and changing tables with storage shelves underneath.
Discovering that you are having twins or multiples can trigger many different (and sometimes conflicting) emotions. While you are most likely overjoyed, you’re probably feeling a bit overwhelmed as well. You might be wondering how are you going to feed two, three, or even (gasp) six babies at once, or how are you going to decorate a nursery for both a boy and a girl? And, where are you going to store all those diapers, wipes, cans of formula, etc.? Luckily, you aren’t the first parent to go through this type of birth, and there is plenty of good advice available, including the following tips:
Purchase in Bulk.
There are certain items, such as diapers and wipes, for instance, that all babies need; and for a parent expecting multiples, you’ll need a stockpile. The fact is—just one newborn will go through six to twelve diapers every day. So for twins, you can expect to use eight large packages of diapers a month.
As soon as you discover you are pregnant with more than one baby, start purchasing these items to build your stockpile. Look for items on sale, and join a warehouse club to save on items bought in large quantities. Sign up for coupons and discounts through large manufacturers. You’ll also need to consider where you are going to store your stockpile. If your nursery is short on space, look for furniture that doubles as storage, such as storage benches and changing tables with storage shelves underneath. You could also repurpose a linen closet or storage shelf in your laundry room to hold baby items.
