Getting the Spa Experience at Home

facialEveryone can use a spa day every once and a while. However, spending hundreds of dollars for a few hours of relaxation may not be in your budget, nor work with your busy schedule. The good news is that you can treat yourself with your own home spa. Just lock yourself in the bathroom while your kids are sleeping, or being watched by your willing significant other. Luckily, there are a lot of products in today’s market aimed at creating a sanctuary in your own home bathroom. Here are some of the best products to help you relax, without breaking your budget.

Body Scrub
You can get a great body scrub from your local beauty store, such as Bath and Body Works, Walmart, or Target. The scrubs have essential oils to moisturize your skin and exfoliating agents, such as sand and sugar, to help remove dead skin cells. These are great to use before shaving to get smoother legs. You can find a good body scrub for about $5.

Foot Spa
Who doesn’t want to soak their feet after a long day at work, or after running around playing chauffer? A foot spa will soothe your aching toes using warm water and jets. For an even better experience, pour bath salts into the water; then just kick back and enjoy the relaxation. Most big box stores sell foot spas for around $20.

Paraffin Wax Machine
Paraffin Wax has been used in spas to smooth skin, relive aching joints, and give the feeling of luxury for years. A home paraffin machine can do the same for you. While the initial investment may be a little pricey, from $50 to upwards of $200, the machines can be used over and over and may be a good investment.

UV Gel Nails
Most women have heard of, or maybe even tried, the Shellac nail system. Companies have started marketing systems that you can use at home. The kits include the UV lamp, gel coats, and gel color. All you have to do is follow the simple instructions on the package and you will have chip free nails for up to two weeks. The kits start at about $40 and can be found at Walmart, Target, and numerous drug stores and beauty supply stores nationwide.

Hair Masks
Coloring, blow-drying, straightening, and loading our hair with products can wreak havoc on your tresses. A home hair mask can restore shine and moisture to your hair, so you can look flawless once again. You can purchase masks that are made for almost any issue, including dry hair, breakage, and color damage. You simply lather your hair with the mask and let it sit for as long as needed before you rinse it out. Hair masks range from affordable, at about $5, to the more expensive salon products, which can exceed $30. Here is an easy tip: after slathering your hair, cover it with a shower cap to protect your hair and anything your head may come in contact with. You can even sleep with the cap on your head, giving your hair more time to soak in the goodness.

Face Masks
We have all seen that scene in a movie where the woman answers the door with a green face, because she is using a mask. These masks may make us look funny, but they also provide nourishment, tightening, and cleansing to our skin. You can get masks that are made specifically for your skin type and particular issue. They can be found at drug stores and start at about $5.

Wow! A must try list! I love the spa at home experience.my sister and I used to have foot spa session at home or weekend facial mask!

Also soft music like the soundtrak to "Somewhere in Time," and some lightly scented candles add to the ambience! White christmas lights around the bathroom ceiling possibly?

I haven’t tried the gel nails at home yet, but for such a small investment, I just might give it a try. It would be great to do after my princess is down for the night and it will also mean less time away from her being spent at the nail salon 🙂

  6. I have to try this… I so need to go to a spa but since I have a low budget, this might work perfect…
