Family Fun in the Fall!
Fall is the perfect time for families to get away, especially if you have young children (or one on the way!). With warm days and cool nights, fall provides a great time to explore the outdoors. Whether in your backyard, at a local park, or visiting your dream vacation destination, it's time to plan a getaway for your family!
During the fall, most school age children and their families are back into their fall schedules. This means that though the weather is glorious, the crowds out and about, especially during the week, are usually sparse. And, fewer people mean that most resorts – whether near or far – are discounting their rates to optimize their income potential. That means a great time and a great deal for your family.
If you are hoping to escape somewhere fun, but not sure where, here are a few ideas for fall family fun adventures:
- State and national parks often provide a perfect destination with the right mix of amenities. From an indoor pool, in-room refrigerator (a must have when traveling with young children), to organized outdoor opportunities designed for families to explore, park resorts often provide a nice mix of activities. Many have paved walking paths or boardwalks, perfect for strolling along in nature. And, staying on site means it's easy to take a mid-day nap (for you both you and your child), and enjoy an array of activities into the evening. Also a plus, visiting a park within the region means no long car rides or expensive airline tickets.
- If you are thinking of a “staycation” (staying at home), the local zoo or botanical gardens are a great way to be with nature, both enjoying native and non-native species, from animals to plants. Most zoos and other such organizations open in the mid-morning, providing the perfect window of opportunity, pre-naptime, for a morning excursion. Pack a picnic and make it a fun and economical outing.
- If you are up for a road trip, consider heading to the coast. From the Outer Banks in North Carolina to Malibu in California, the beaches are often deserted as the fall season approaches, making it the perfect time to vacation with young children. Consider renting a condo or home versus staying in a hotel. The amenities you will find in such a rental will make for a smooth and successful trip for your family.
Wherever you choose to roam, fall is a great time for a vacation with the family.
