You Won’t Believe What This Man Did For His Partner’s Morning Sickness
When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I remember my husband (ever so thoughtfully, I should add) commenting on how he thought I must be faking my morning sickness.
“I mean, really,” he said. “It has to be all in your head. No one can puke that much.”
I responded by promptly throwing up on his shoes.
Yes, my husband really was that rude, and, yes, I really was that sick, but luckily, he did get a little more thoughtful with my next pregnancies. Actually, I take that back. Luckily, I was just less sick during my next pregnancies.
One man that was actually thoughtful during his partner's miserable episodes of morning sickness, however, is Mike Power.
When Mike Power and his partner became pregnant, they were ecstatic. But as any woman who has experienced pregnancy before knows, that ecstatic happiness is no deterrent for the lurking evil known as morning sickness.
In what can feel like a vicious cycle, the constant nausea of morning sickness is actually made worse by not eating. So even if you don't feel like eating, hunger can cause horrible morning sickness, dry heaving, and puking. But in some cases, the right food can tame that morning-sickness monster.
Which is what Mike Power found to be the secret cure to his partner's morning sickness.
Flabbergasted, as his normally tame-eating partner suddenly had cravings for foods she generally wouldn't touch (like chocolate and chips), he made it his personal quest to cook something brand new for her every day of her pregnancy.
“Every time I eat something that I ate the day before, it reminds me of wanting to puke,” she related in an article about the couple.
So he did it. For every meal of every day of her pregnancy, Power made her a complete and brand-new dish. His efforts spanned the range from Columbian food to Turkish rice pudding.
“My main aim was to get as many calories inside her and the growing bump at each meal as possible, and thankfully, it was her aim, too. Though, she felt torn,” Powers said.
And his mission was accomplished. Although in the end, after the baby was born, he himself had ended up putting on the weight that his partner eventually lost.
But hey. If I could get my man to cook like that, what would be a few extra pounds, right?
