Have you ever noticed how we are obsessed with pregnancy?

From the latest celebrity baby-bump watch to office gossip about who's next on the maternity wheel, we just can't get enough of pregnancy.

There's just something magical about a pregnant woman, isn't there?

Whenever I spot a pregnant woman at the store or out and about, I always smile a bit to myself because I know. I know what it's like to carry that secret; to carry the literal weight of the world inside of you.

Sometimes, I have to wonder just what it is about pregnant women and pregnancy that has us all so enthralled.

After all, it's the one thing (along with the act that gets the majority of us there) that pretty much hasn't changed since the dawn of mankind.

So what is it?

What do we love about pregnancy?

It is my humble opinion that our fascination with pregnancy comes down to hope.

Plain and simple, a pregnancy represents hope. No matter how bad things get in the world, a pregnant woman is a chance at a renewal. Pregnancy is the living reminder that life goes on.

We may be messing up our ozone layer or filling up our landfills with garbage, but as long as there are pregnant women, we know that there is hope for future generations.

In our personal lives, pregnancy can represent hope as well. A couple longing for a family, newlyweds starting a new chapter together, a husband and wife unsure of their future together.

And while I'm not oblivious enough to think that every pregnancy is a result of a beautiful union of pure, blissful love (did I mention I found out I was pregnant in college?), I do also think that pregnancy is a representation of love. If not the love that created the child, the love that will sustain him or her.

But it  also may be just beginning.

And that hope, my friends, is what makes pregnancy beautiful.

So now, if you will excuse me, I have some guilt-free, baby-bump watch surfing to do …

This was well said… I tried for years and couldn’t get pregnant after a horrible incident occurred. At the ripe age of 41, I am now pregnant with our son and my husband and I couldn’t be happier. We are being induced on 12/20/13…
    To God be the glory…
    Have a blessed day..
