What’s YOUR Idea of the Perfect Date Night?

Date night.  Hard to come by, but oh so special when it does.

Once you have kids, date night takes on a new meaning. No more lounging over dinner at a restaurant and then following that up with a marathon of movies.

Date night means finding a sitter, paying a sitter (unless you are lucky enough to have family nearby) and getting home and in bed early because, as you know, the little ones don’t care if you stay up until two – they will be waking you at 5 regardless!

When my kids were super small and we lived far from family, we rarely did date night. The one time we hired a sitter found us dropping almost $100 for dinner and a movie, and then racing home so we didn’t owe another $12 for another hour of baby watching. It was fun to get out, but difficult to imagine doing again.

A few months later we started movie night in our neighborhood. Each weekend one neighbor, including us, took turns hosting a movie at the house for the little ones. The rest of the parents then had an opportunity to head out and have a date or just wander the aisles of Target sans children.

Now we are closer to family, so we do manage to have a date night from time to time. We usually do the standard movie and dinner; but one evening, with nothing playing at the local theater, we chose a different route: a drive to the beach to walk along the pier.

I’ll have to say, this was the perfect date. It was outside, we were alone and we had an opportunity to talk about whatever came to our minds.

What about you? If you had to choose your perfect Valentine’s Day date, or any type of date night with your SO, where would it take you?

I would love to go to the park after dark and stare at the stars. I haven’t done that since my daughter was born.

  2. One with my boyfriend since he’s not around that’s kinda impossible:(
