It All Started with a Meatball… What Kind of Name is That?
Not your average blog name, huh? Well, to be honest, we’re not always the average family, so it seems to fit. And it did, indeed, start with a Meatball.
Bruce and Winsome Klay fell in love. Her father told him that if he wanted any shot at his daughter, he better go get a job. So he did, and eventually the couple married and settled down in Tampa, FL. Over the sixty four years of their marriage, they built a foundation of love, laughter, and kindness that stood the test of any challenges. They also built a family, raising five daughters together, who went on to grace them with plenty of grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
I was the first grandchild to be born. I adored my grandparents. My Mema was a beautiful woman who always put the needs of others first and brought grace and dignity to anything she did. I loved my grandpa as well, but when attempting to express my love for “Me-paw”, it came out sounding like Meatball. And thus, he earned a nickname that stayed with him the rest of his life. A name he wore proudly, with a smile and the knowledge that his grandkids were following in his footsteps, creating nicknames for those they loved and embracing the world with a smile.
EverydayFamily began through the efforts of one of those grandchildren and has expanded to include several others in the family. We all learned so much from Mema and Meatball: the importance of family, a sense of humor, and service to your fellow man. We try to honor their memories through our lives, and through our work. We hope you’ll enjoy learning more about our family here.
