One of the best things a parent can do for their child is foster a love of reading. When children love to read they have the ability to learn about whatever they're interested in and connect with the larger world. Check out the tips to help your child learn to love reading!

  1. Make reading a habit

If you want your child to love reading, the most important thing you can do is read to them. Start reading to your kiddo as soon as you can (the earlier the better!). And make a point to read to them at some point every day.

  1. Set a good example

When your child sees you enjoying reading, they’ll be excited to dive into their own books. Let your child see you enjoy reading as a hobby while they play or whenever you have an extra minute to sit down. Don’t hesitate to share what your story is about and invite them to join you!

  1. Cuddle up

Reading with your child should be a pleasant experience. Slow down, cuddle up on the couch, and let your child pick what story they’d like to hear next.

  1. Choose subjects they’re interested in

If your little one doesn’t seem to love the stories you have at home, consider hitting the library. Pick out some books that relate to their favorite subjects. If your little one likes trucks, consider checking out a transportation-related book. If they’re into animals, look for a book that features something snuggly.

  1. Make it personal

One way to pull your child into any story is to personalize it. Storymakery allows kids to write and personalize their own stories. When a child is invested in the story they’ll be excited to pull it out again and again!
