4 Ways to Stretch Your Maternity Wardrobe into Fall

If you’re due in late fall or early winter, you’re probably starting to get a little stressed about how you’ll get through the last months of pregnancy without buying a whole new maternity wardrobe. While shopping for maternity clothes can be fun, it can also be really expensive. No one wants to spend money on clothes they’ll only wear for a couple of weeks. You also don’t want to be uncomfortable or cold as the temperature drops, though. Instead of buying a brand new fall wardrobe that you’ll only need for a short time, consider the tips and tricks below for stretching your summer maternity wardrobe into fall!

Take a look at what you already have

While you’re probably stressing about not having any fall maternity clothes, it might be worth taking a look at what you already have. You may find that your wardrobe is more fall-appropriate that you may have realized. While tank tops and shorts are summer staples, many women also have at least a pair or two of jeans and long leggings and shirts that provide more coverage.

Examine your non-maternity clothes

By this point in your pregnancy, it’s a good bet that you no longer fit into any of your pre-pregnancy clothes. While you won’t be able to raid your non-maternity closet for jeans and long-sleeved tops, you will be able to pull out some fall accessories. Scarves and hats will help keep you warm and make your outfits feel more like fall.

Add layers

Dressing in layers is always a good idea during pregnancy when your body temperature rises and falls throughout the day. During fall, it can also be a helpful way to stretch your wardrobe into the next season. Add leggings under a summer dress to make it fall appropriate. Layer tank tops with cardigans (sometimes pre-pregnancy one’s work!). You can also add undershirts to summer tops to make them feel a little cozier.

Raid your partner's closet

If you have a partner, now is the time to take advantage of all their closet has to offer. Consider raiding their closet for items you can use to layer up as summer turns to fall. Often their jackets, button-up shirts or other tops will fit you even as you move through your final trimester.
