Sofia Vergara is Planning Ahead
Sofia Vergara has risen to fame in the United States since landing a starring role on the hit TV show Modern Family. Vergara herself has decided to put her own spin on the “modern” part of family. The 40-year old actress has decided to freeze her eggs in anticipation of having more children.
At this time, she hopes to have children with her on-again off-again fiancé, Nick Loeb. Vergara is already a parent to 21-year old Manolo, her child from a short-lived marriage at the age of 18. She talks about her egg freezing decision in the April issue of Vogue, saying, “I have to be careful what I eat because they’re freezing my eggs! Hormone pills, and then after that it is hormone injections. They want to get as many eggs as they can because usually you produce them but they’re not good. They have to be perfect, perfect, perfect ones.”
She talks about the reasons for freezing her eggs, saying, Nick Loeb “is 37, younger than me, never had kids.” According to Vergara, her son Manolo is happy with her decision to add to her family, in fact as a youngster he used to beg her to have another baby so she would stop focusing so much on him!
I am a big advocate of doing everything you can to have children if you are financially and emotionally stable enough to have them. Freezing your eggs is a relatively new procedure in fertility and only recently was taken off the “experimental” list of things to do with fertility treatments. While Vergara will have a potentially long road ahead, as women have better chances at successful pregnancy if their eggs are frozen in their early thirties, there is growing technology that makes having a successful pregnancy very possible after freezing eggs.
Would you freeze your eggs?
