Time for the Sippy Cup? 4 Tips to Make the Transition From a Bottle Easier
In the early weeks and months of their life, most babies drink from a bottle at least some of the time. Whether they’re drinking pumped milk or formula while their mother is at work or while they’re with another caregiver, it’s likely that they enjoy their feeding time. It’s also likely that their caregivers worked hard to find just the right bottle for their little one. For all the hard work it takes to introduce a bottle to a baby, it can seem like the time of bottle feeding passes quickly and, before they know it, parents and caregivers are ready to introduce a sippy cup.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies begin to transition from a bottle to a cup sometime between their sixth and ninth month. If babies had their way, they would probably keep their bottle forever!

Don’t hesitate to try out a few different styles of sippy cups to get a feel for what your babe likes best. Also consider how well the cup will work for you. Cleaning all those parts and pieces can take a while, so make sure you're ready for taking care of the maintenance.
Keep it available
One of the best ways to encourage babies to begin to drink from a sippy cup is to keep it available and within their reach. By keeping your baby's drink nearby, they get practice drinking from a sippy cup every time they’re thirsty!
Offer, offer, offer
While having the sippy cup within baby’s reach is sure to get them some practice drinking from it, parents can boost their babes sippy-cup-drinking-skills by continually offering them their cup throughout the day.
Fill it with their favorite drink
Babies don’t need any water before they’re six months old but, once they begin to eat solids, they often begin to enjoy drinking water from a cup as they snack rather than milk from the breast or a bottle exclusively. If baby enjoys the novelty of water, feel free to fill their cup with water – if their favorite is milk, fill it up with milk!
