Savor Summer: 5 Things to Do Before It’s Gone

As fall draws closer and the days begin to feel just a little bit shorter, lots of families spend their time wishing they could squeeze in just a little bit more summer before the leaves begin to change. No matter how much you love summer, you can’t stretch the season — but what you can do is check all the items you can off of your summer bucket list. Check out these five ways to savor summer before it’s gone!

Sleep outdoors

Whether you break out all your camping gear and head off for a week in the woods or simply roll out your sleeping bag on the porch, sleeping under the stars is something you can only do in the summer. If you’ve got a backyard and young kids you have everything you need to create a campout they’ll remember for a lifetime. 

Roast marshmallows

Just like you don’t have to be on a nature trek to camp out under the stars, you don’t need to head into the woods to roast marshmallows. No matter whether you have a bonfire pit you can break out in the back yard or will be roasting marshmallows over the stove, your kiddos will love their ooey-gooey taste and the memories you make as you roast them together. 

Spend time the water

There’s no time like summer to get close to the water. You can take a trip to the ocean, spend time by the local lake or river, or head to the pool down the street to get your summer water fun fix. No matter where you are, your kids will love it when you hop in the water with them and let out your own inner child as you play. Savor summer yourself and hop in the water too!

Look at the stars

While it can be a little tricky to get a good glimpse of the stars if you live in a city with just a little bit of travel away from the lights you’ll be able to spend an evening looking for shooting stars. Bring along some snacks, a blanket to lay on, and your little ones and you’ll all make sweet summer memories that won’t soon be forgotten.

Get into nature 

Nature isn't always for everyone, but during the summer it’s worth getting out there at least once. Take a long hike in the woods, go on the hunt for a local swimming hole, or simply stroll through your local botanical gardens before the air cools and you’ve missed the chance. 

Summer is all about having fun and making memories. If you’ve got little ones, use these last few weeks of summer to create the sort of fun memories that will last a lifetime and you’ll feel far more ready to welcome fall when it comes!
