Pregnancy Pedicures

What girl doesn’t dream of welcoming the start of spring with some bright and pretty toenails?

Maybe a fresh new mint green pedicure or some pink pastels?

I can almost see the open sandals now….on a beach…ahhhh.

Ok, back to the reality. So, of course you’re probably anxious to break out of your winter boots and prance around with some pretty toes. There’s just one problem—

You can’t see them.

I know that when I’m pregnant, I loved keeping my toenails painted. Having sacrificed so much about my appearance (my waistline, my hair, my boobs), I felt like it was one small part of maintaining my girliness that was manageable.

If you’re craving a spring pedicure, but having trouble fathoming how on earth you will manage to polish your toes, here are some tips:

Splurge for a spa pedicure.
Not only will it beautify your nails, but having someone massage your tired tootsies will help ease the swelling and refresh your circulation. As someone who hung on to a gift certificate for an entire year because I didn’t want to “waste” it when I was pregnant, let me just say—be smarter than I was. Sacrificing a dinner out for the sheer bliss of soaking your feet, getting a massage, and getting your toenails warm-weather ready? Totally worth it. And no worries on the safety end—manicures and pedicures are safe (in moderation) during pregnancy.

Rope your partner into painting your toenails for you.
I’ll admit, I was never able to bring myself to do this, but I’m sure my husband would have obliged. I know several women who asked their husbands to paint their toenails for them and they actually did a very nice job. Think of it as a bonding experience for your marriage.

Make it kid-friendly.
Got young kids? Got an old kitchen towel? Have a spa party! My daughters loved painting Mom’s toes and as long you don’t look too closely, they will probably turn out better than you think. Even if it’s not the best pedicure you’ve ever received, it’s a good excuse to take a nap.

Do you paint your own toenails when you’re pregnant?

I have had pedicures before but not while pregnant. I would LOVE to go to the salon to get a manicure and a pedicure a few times before delivering.

  2. My Fiance paints my toes and hands for me whenever I ask 🙂
He is Amazing like that but we are long distance right now so I think a spa trip is in order 🙂
Either that or I’ll have a friend do them and am flexible so might do them myself 🙂

I’m a flip flop junky so my 9 yr old daughter has already volunteered to do my nails every week this summer. She says “because I know how you feel about naked toes, they are ugly” lol

Splurging on a pedi is also a great pregnancy stress reliever as well as helps with the circulation. A good foot massage does wonders!

I always had my toe nails painted. Now that I am pregnant I am honestly having a hard time getting my foot up to me or bending down, especially bending down it just does not work. I also tried to ask my husband, he said he would tomorrow. When tomorrow came he still didn’t, maybe he "forgot". So I am going to try some sweet talk and maybe it will work, because with a baby on the way i don’t have money to "splurge on a spa", I also don’t have older kids to do it for me.
