Nutella Muddy Buddies

Nutella Muddy BuddiesNothing says “I Love You” like chocolate.  It is synonymous with the day of love celebrated each year. Yet, I’m thinking that Cupid didn’t know of the deep emotion felt for the chocolate- hazelnut spread of Nutella. Yes, the true love for that sweet little secret ingredient on toast, pancakes, ice cream, cookies, or in a new recipe which I will share with you today … Nutella Muddy Buddies!

I will be honest here- I’ve never made a batch of Muddy Buddies in my life. I patiently waited for the holidays to roll around because I knew a bag of this sweet treat would arrive from my neighbor. It is an addictive snack and I was thankful it was only around once a year.

As I thought about what to make for this week, I went to Pinterest and found a plethora of recipes for red velvet this and white chocolate that … and I thought– too much work. It’s cute, but I wanted something easy and fun to make. Then I came across the Muddy Buddy- which also goes by the alias of Puppy Chow.

Most recipes called for chocolate and peanut butter, but I thought– let’s add Nutella!

So, I give you a special Valentine treat- the Nutella Muddy Buddy- and where I’ve added red, pink and white sprinkles for the day of love, you could custom make this mix for any holiday.

1 tsp vanilla

2 cups confectioner sugar

To Make:

Pour cereal into a large bowl.

In 2 cup (or larger) glass measuring cup, place chocolate chips, butter (cut in chunks), and Nutella. Cook in microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. Cook again for 30 seconds. Stir.

Add vanilla to chocolate mixture and stir until smooth.

Pour over cereal and fold gently. Try to cover as much cereal as possible.

Pour coated cereal into bag and seal tightly. Shake well.

Pour out coated cereal onto wax paper to cool completely.

Shake colored sprinkles over cereal (optional)

Store in airtight container.
