Not Everyone Is Excited That Chip and Joanna Gaines Are Having Another Baby
Like many people, I am a fan of the powerhouse couple known as Chip and Joanna Gaines. I dream about them spontaneously coming to my house to decorate it for me, I get excited with every reveal on their show, and I unwaveringly have a monthly persuasion speech to my husband to try to convince him to take a trip with me to the Magnolia Silos. (One of these days it WILL happen, mark my words, people.)
I love them because they are such a great example of a family that works hard and plays hard. They seem like they genuinely love each other and love their kiddos and it's so inspiring how they've created a life that lets them be together, be successful, and have the freedom to live on a farm and grow their own vegetables and collect their own eggs. It's the ultimate dream!
And just when we thought that Chip and Joanna couldn't get any more inspirational, they had to go and announce that they were expecting a baby. Not just any baby, of course–it's the couple's fifth baby!
Chip and Joanna's announcement came at a time when I was actually pregnant with what would have been my husband and I's fifth baby too. When I saw their announcement, I was so excited because it felt like, suddenly, having five kids wasn't so crazy after all. If Chip and Joanna had five kiddos, I could too! Five kids can be totally cool.
Unfortunately, I lost my pregnancy, but Joanna and Chip are still going strong with their number five. And while I am obviously in full support of a big family, not everyone has been as happy for the couple. Chip and Joanna's original pregnancy announcement, unsurprisingly was not met with excitement from everyone. Some accused the couple of planning a pregnancy simply in order to “stay relevant” in the news; others accused them of strategically planning to launch a whole children's line next, so they needed a baby in order to market their line, and still others fell back on the classic “you have too many kids already” insult that never gets old. It's sad, but when a couple like them are so high-profile, bullying is bound to be present and I hate that that's a “guarantee.”
Sadly, Joanna Gaines is no stranger to bullying; in an interview, she confessed that she had been bullied in the past for her mixed ethnicity. Gaines was born to an Asian mother and a Caucasian father and although the only thing that most of us notice is her amazing hair that I am totally jealous of, during high school, she was bullied for her looks.
With a little one on the way, Chip and Joanna also announced that they are ending their show. It's sad news, but for the couple, who has many other successful income sources, it's probably a smart move. With a baby on the way, the most important thing is protecting yourself, your family, and your own health. Gaines is once again providing an example for all of us to live our lives in a way that makes the most sense for us, not bullies online, at school, or down the road. We're all different and whether we're welcoming our fifth baby, our tenth, or choosing to stick with one baby, we can all support each other's choices.
Especially when those choices involve shiplap, am I right or am I right?
