Netflix Shows to Binge Watch When You Are Up With Baby – or After the Kids Go to Bed
Staying up late is a rite of passage for all new parents. Once your baby is going to bed at a respectable hour, staying up late to watch something that is not animated is something many parents look forward to all day. But, what to watch is often an open question. We have some suggestions for the best on Netflix to ensure your screen-time is quality time.
For your Inner Diva:
What's it like to be a Princess who suddenly becomes the Queen? Netflix gives us a glimpse into the life of Queen Elizabeth II in the most expensive show Netflix has ever produced, The Crown.
For the Sentimental Mom in you:
Have babies on your mind? One thing you are sure to see in every episode of Call the Midwife is babies! Call the Midwife follows a group of midwives in an impoverished section of 1950s London and portrays many social conflicts of the time as well as the shift from home-based Midwifery care to hospital-based medical care for expectant and new mothers.
For your Rebellious Side:
Sons of Anarchy is one of the most binge-watched shows on Netflix for good reason. It's got everything from rival motorcycle gangs to deep and true romance to compelling family and social conflicts. Not your thing? Check out what happens to an upper-crust New Yorker about to get married when her past catches up with her and lands her in prison with some colorful inmates in Orange is the New Black. A more tame option is the very popular Grace and Frankie, which follows two senior women who forge their own path when their husbands decide to leave them – for each other.
For the Political Junkie in you:
Politics in the U.S. right now are pretty interesting, but watching House of Cards on Netflix is even more compelling. There is romance, mystery, and suspense as you get a first-hand look at what a Congressman will do to obtain more and more power. Spoiler: He will do anything it takes.
For late nights:
If you are not going to sleep anyway, you won't mind American Horror Story keeping you up late. Each season stands alone, although some of the same cast members appear in more than one season. Storylines focus on common American fables, from haunted hotels, mansions filled with ghosts, vampires, freak shows, and more. The OA and Stranger Things are other binge-worthy shows likely to keep you up.
For when you just Want to Laugh:
Netflix has both new and classic series guaranteed to make you laugh. The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt follows the story of a girl let loose in New York after spending years in an underground bunker as part of a cult. Jane the Virgin follows the story of a highly motivated young woman who is accidentally artificially inseminated and becomes a mother – despite being a virgin. Also, classics on Nextflix are plentiful. Search for old favorites like Freaks and Geeks, Friends, and Arrested Development. Or check out newer network hits like Don't Trust the B in Apt. 23 and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
Fort your Inner Superhero:
So, what do you binge watch on Netflix?
