August 3rd is National Watermelon Day: Here’s How to Celebrate!
Watermelon lovers rejoice! This week you’ll have the chance to celebrate just how much you enjoy chowing down on your favorite fruit! Watermelon is believed to have originated in the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa and was first recorded to be harvested nearly 5000 years ago. Since then, watermelon has been celebrated for its refreshing and delicious taste and is a favorite summer staple across the U.S. This Thursday, on National Watermelon day, take the opportunity to celebrate this juicy fruit in one of the ways below!
Snap a watermelon dress photo
This summer, the watermelon slice dress photo craze swept social media. If you haven’t snapped a photo of your little one in a watermelon dress, grab a slice, pick an angle and snap away!
Make a watermelon smoothie
If you love the sweet taste of watermelon blended with other fruit, consider making a watermelon smoothie. Check out this strawberry-watermelon smoothie recipe for an easy to fix, sweet surprise.
Turn it into salsa
If you prefer your watermelon with a little zing, consider whipping up some watermelon salsa. Enjoy this salsa with a pile of chips and a nice cool drink!
If you or your kiddos enjoy anything in frozen pop form, consider turning your watermelon into a cold delight. To make a watermelon pop, simply cut your melon into pop-shaped slices and insert a popsicle stick into one end and let it sit in the freezer for a few hours.
Add it to your water
If you’d like to enjoy your watermelon in a more subtle way, consider adding small slices to the water you sip throughout the day. As the melon infuses your water, you’ll be glad you added something so sweet!
Everything is better with friends. This National Watermelon Day, invite a few friends over, let the kids play, and enjoy some sweet slices with friends.
Happy National Watermelon Day, everyone! Have fun!
