Mom is Surprised After Giving Birth Naturally to 15-pound, 7-ounce Newborn

A couple in Bristol, England, Jade and Ryan, got the surprise of their life recently when their son was born. Not only did their bundle of joy arrive six weeks early, but when he arrived, little George King was, well, not so little. He weighed a whopping 15 pounds and 7 ounces. At 34 weeks, that is almost twice the size of the average newborn. Can you imagine how much he would have weighed had he gone to term?

Talk about being surprised at the birth! When I was pregnant, the question was do we find out the sex of the baby or do we wait for a surprise at birth? With modern technology and science being what it is, doctors can tell a lot about a baby before it is ever born, but somehow, no one saw this coming.

Understandably, Jade had difficulty delivering the baby boy. Not until his head was delivered did the doctors, who were delivering him, realize how large the newborn was, and at that point, his shoulders became stuck. He was deprived of oxygen for five minutes and was only given a 10% chance of survival.

He stayed in the hospital for 4 1/2 weeks and is now 6 weeks old and home. He has only gained an ounce since being out, but really, he was already ahead of the game for sure. His parents say that he is doing well, and a recent MRI showed no major damage. They are hoping he will only have some slight delays in learning as a result of the oxygen deprivation.

Doctors are baffled as to why the baby was so large. Neither parent was extraordinarily large, both were quite average-sized newborns themselves.

For now, Jade is packing away all the newborn-sized clothing that she bought for her baby and is saving it for her next child. After the ordeal with giving birth to no-so-little George, she says that she is a bit put off on the idea for a while. I can't say I blame her.

I was induced with both of my daughters because doctors were afraid my babies were going to be large — too large for me to birth. My husband is 6’5” and was 24 inches long when he was born and weighed 10 pounds. I am only 5’7” and was a preemie who barely weighed 4 pounds when I was born. My girls weighed 7 pounds and 13 ounces and 8 pounds and 6 ounces. Quite frankly, my second daughter was almost a c-section because she was too large for me to birth. She got stuck. Luckily, we were able to get her out naturally, but it was not easy. Anything larger and I would have needed a c-section.

I have a lot of respect for Jade. Once the head came out and we realized how large he was, I would have passed out cold.

What was the size of your largest baby?

WOW, is all that I can say, props to mama. I was the biggest baby in my family. I was 10lbs even and got stuck. My mom had to have emergency Csection. This was back in 1983 on the island of PR. Luckly I had no damage. But my two kids were under 8lbs each. My 3rd which I am due to have in 9 weeks is already weighting in at over 3 lbs for 31 weeks. Who know how big she is going to get, but I’ve told my dr I’m not pushing if the baby proves to be bigger then my first two. God bless this mom, she did it naturally. Man I would have been a crying mess if it had been me.

I was 23 with my first, 8lb 4oz 21″ long a boy who came a month late. In those days they didn’t induce unless they thought something was wrong. My second was my daughter who I had at 27 and she was 10lbs 20″ long. And at 31 I had my last child a son. He was my biggest at 11lbs. He was 21″ long. It was a traumatic delivery. They just kept saying since my last child was 10 lbs that this would be easy as this baby was around 9pounds. HA! Big surprise there.
No C-Sections, no drugs. He got stuck and everyone knows that if your baby’s head and shoulders are out and they get stuck they could die. So since the midwife waited to long to get the doctor he had to cut from here to there if you get
my drift and have all the nurses laying on me to help push him out. He was one week early and 21 inches long. I do think my last two should have been C-sections since one needed forceps and there was a lot of cutting, and the last one almost didn’t make it. Doctors seem to go through stages where they won’t do C-sections if they can avoid it at all cost. Plus natural childbirth is painful. That’s why they call it labor. I say knock me out and wake me when it’s over!

Congrats!!! I have the biggest baby born in my family. I have always just been grateful that they have been healthy!!! My 1st was 7lbs.11 1/2ozs. 20 inches, 2nd was biggest @ 9lbs. 1oz. 20 1/2 inches (was a week late, the Dr. said he had to induce because of the rate the baby was growing, Dr. said he would start gaining almost 5lbs. per week), 3rd was 8lbs. 9ozs. 21 1/2 inches, 4th was 4 weeks early & Dr. said she wouldn’t weigh more than 6lbs. she came out at 8lbs. 3ozs. & 19 1/2 inches, #5 was 8lbs. 1 1/2ozs. 20 inches (passed away at 1 month), #6 was my smallest, born at 36 weeks, just like #4 he weighed in at 6lbs. 6ozs. 19 inches & last but not least #7 (again Dr. under estimated his weight by a long shot, saying he was between 3 lbs. 4 ozs. & 4 lbs. 3 ozs.) he was born at 8lbs. 3ozs. & 21 1/2 inches.

  8. My largest was 8.1 and was the fastest and easiest delivery she was my third. I give this momma props on delivering a baby so large, Thank goodness all were okay And hopefully with the baby lacking oxygen at birth don’t effect the learning abilities My advice would be don’t treat the little guy any different and take the time and do learning activities with him as he grows!!! Good luck and bright future to little baby…

My first born a boy weighed 3 pounds 4 ounces he was a preemie 29 weeks, he was healthy but tiny, he was 12 pounds at 12 months old still in newborn diapers. just growing out of them.

My second boy RIP born 3 weeks early weighed 4 lbs. 3 ozs he died an hour and 20 minutes after birth 🙁

My 3rd boy was also 3 weeks early and weighed 5 lbs. 14 ozs he was my biggest

  10. MurilloMami says:

I had mine naturally as well. My girls were 7lbs 14oz, 7lbs 2oz, and 7lbs 4oz. My boy weighed 8lbs 9oz. Although he was the largest, I believe he was the easiest because of waterbirth.

  11. Melissa says:

I couldn’t imagine 15lbs. When I got pregnant with my first I was 5″2 106 Luckily the doctors missed how big she was. I was told she should weight 7.5 to 8 lbs only being over due 4 days she weighted 10lbs 13 oz naturally my second 9lbs 14oz and my third 9.5 so hopefully this one will be healthy and not as big as the first !!!!

  12. gfeld says:

my biggest was 8 and a half pounds. got stuck too, but thank g-d he was not oxygen deprived. three others were 8 pounds and 1 was 6 and a half pounds.

  13. Liz says:

I was my mom’s biggest baby, at about eight and a half pounds, but I’m the smallest now at only 5’3″. but my boyfriend is 6’6″ and was almost 10 pounds when born, so I’m a little worried about how big out baby will be. still, at least I probably won’t have to worry about this!

  14. Brittany says:

I can’t even imagine having my child that early and having them weigh that much! I went 43 weeks with my daughter and she was only 8 lbs 4 ounces.

  15. Mommybear says:

My first baby was 6lbs 12oz my second was 8 lbs 6oz. I can’t imagine delivering a 15 pounder yikes! Props to her.

  16. Tiffany says:

  17. Paula says:

My daughter was 5pounds 11 ounces in full term and I felt like I was breaking into pieces. I cannot imagine 15 pound baby. God bless though

  18. Serena says:

Both of my boys where 9lbs 12oz one was right on time and the other was a week and half early.

  19. KT. S says:

Wow, Big baby! Mine were 7pounds 9oz 12 hr labor with epidural and 7pounds 4.5oz 24 hour labor all natural.

  20. Toni says:

All of my children so far have been born @ 35 weeks my oldest daughter was 4lb 5oz my middle daughter was 4lb13oz then my son was 5lb 3oz I’m currently 8 weeks pregnant & I hardly doubt that I’ll make it past 35 weeks.

  21. Michelle says:

My first one was 8 lb 12 1/2 oz. My second was 7 lb 9 oz. My third was 10 lbs. My fourth was 9 lb 13 oz & my fifth was 8 lb. What was funny is that my first & fifth were both a month early. My third was born naturally. When I was in labor, they thought he would be about 9 lb, so they decided that I should be able to deliver safely. When he crowned, I couldn’t push him out. They tried forceps( didn’t work). They tried a suction cup ( didn’t work). Finally, the dr said ” I can see the head”. My now ex husband said “Where?” jumped and landed on my belly. That is how my younger son was born. I tell everyone that my ex delivered our son.

  22. Leslie says:

My was 9, 1 and 21 inches long. Dad was 9, 15, and 20 inches. I was 8 and 20 inches. I was told in the ultrasound she was seven pounds and I said no. She will be bigger. My still is big for her again 2 1/2 38 inches and 38 lbs.

  23. Great Mom says:

    wow thats a big baby

  24. AspenXIzzard says:

My daughter was 8lbs 4oz and I had to have an emergency c- section!!! I could not imagine a 15 lb baby!!!!

  25. Chantel says:
