Maternity Style: Layers for Winter

Those temperatures are beginning to dip down as winter is fast approaching. Time to layer up to keep you and your precious baby bump nice and warm. What better way than with fabulous scarves, fur vests and flannel? By just including a few of these trendy key pieces you can turn your outfit from boring to eye catching and, most pieces can be used post-pregnancy, so they are worth the investment.

These first two looks are chic and classy, providing a a few elements of our latest fashion trends of animal print and faux fur. Look fabulously warm and put together in these ensembles for an evening out on the town.

  1. This slouchy maternity sweater with a cape like cut is the perfect base for creating a fabulous outfit. This look has just enough detail on it's own with the sweater and a great pair of maternity jeans but add a fashionable and fun leopard scarf. Choose a pair of gold earrings to  round out the look like these three tiered gold earrings.
  2.  The cowl neck top is a great choice for winter because they are stylish and cozy. This particular top comes in a few colors, consider stocking up on a few.  The cowl neck is one of those versatile wardrobe staples that can be worn casually, to the office or an evening out. Make it trendy with a fur fest because this season, it's all about the faux fur. It might not be for everyone, but it surely will add a statement to a plain outfit!  Throw on your favorite riding boots and complete the look with a fun leopard clutch.
  3. Plaid is a timeless trend and it's perfect for those casual days of running errands or just a lazy day at home.  However, you could easily glam up a flannel with a statement necklace making for a little unexpected wow – think multiple strands of pearls. You could also top the plaid with a vest for an extra layer of warmth for a casual addition to your look. Ankle sued boots are a perfect shoe to go with your plaid and will easily work with other outfits in your wardrobe – so consider them an investment piece.
  4. This is the same sweater in our first set but in gray so you can see how easily this one sweater can go from a night out to the perfect casual ensemble by just switching up your layers and accessories.  For this look I added a plaid scarf, keeping it simple with black and white, worn with the same jeans shown in our third set and completing this comfortable look with a pair of Keds in black. This is an example of looking put together while also being very comfortable. You don't have to give up comfort for style.

By sticking with simple sweaters and tops you can easily spruce up your winter wardrobe by adding a few fabulous accessories like jewelry, scarves and vests. These looks will leave you feeling warm and cozy while also adding a little wow factor keeping you on trend. The best part, is many of these accessory items will be investment pieces that you can use well beyond your pregnancy.

How do you layer up your basics to warm up or spruce up an otherwise casual look? Are you a scarf fan? Would you go for the fur vest?
