Do Your Little Ones Have Allergies? 6 Tips for an Allergy-Friendly Halloween
Halloween can be a challenging time if you have a child with an allergy, so if you're looking for ideas to have an allergy-friendly Halloween, here are some tips and tricks to make it happen.Even households that do not have children with allergies can help to make allergy-friendly Halloweens happen for their neighborhood. After all, what fun is trick-or-treating if not everyone can participate?
From ideas for decorating fun to allergen-free candy to pass out, Halloween can still be a fun time for everyone.
You probably don't want to spend a ton of money on specialty candy that's allergen-free and that's where my friend Amazon comes in. One of the top Halloween sellers, Airheads are free of the top allergens: no milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, shellfish, wheat. Are they healthy? Absolutely not. But free of most allergen offenders? Yup.
It's also a great idea to offer food-free goodies for trick-or-treaters, so there's absolutely no risk of allergies. You could pass out glow sticks (also a useful toy!) stickers, small Halloween bouncy balls, spooky stamps, or monster tattoos, all available on Amazon Prime.
If your child feels left out on Halloween from sweet treats, could you do a family candy decorating session with a fun Halloween house? Move aside holiday gingerbread houses, there's a new spooky house in town. This is not an allergen-free house, so you'll have to make sure contact allergies won't be a problem and be sure your kids don't pop any bites into their mouth! It's for decorating purposes only. Alternatively, you could use it is a fun decor piece for a Halloween party.
These Ghosts & Bats Veggie Chips are available at your local stores and are 100% gluten-free, with no artificial flavors or preservatives. These might be better than the raisins my mom used to pass out …
Indulge in some nut-free Halloween treats
Mrs. Thinster's cookies are Teal Halloween friendly and processed in a nut and allergen-friendly facility, yay! You can choose from seven different flavors, including pumpkin spice, brownie batter, chocolate chip, cake batter, and toasted coconut. These products do contain egg, whey, and wheat, however. (And as an additional plus, these brownie batter crisps might just pair nicely with a lovely glass of wine and a viewing of “Hocus Pocus” long after the kids have passed out from their sugar comas. Just sayin'!)
Pass out pumpkins
Leave the candy out of Halloween with these adorable Halloween squishies. (Am I the only one with kids who are obsessed with those darn things??!) These Playfoam® Halloween Pods are only $1 and available exclusively at Target. (Of course.)
