Kelly Clarkson Gets an Instant Family; Prince George Gets Christened
Big events and the small joys of parenthood are front and center on this week’s celebrity roundup! Check out the latest from our favorite celebrity moms and dads.
Kelly Clarkson went from single lady to married mom in a single afternoon! Kelly Clarkson, Grammy winner and American Idol alumna, 31, married her boyfriend of a little over a year, Brandon Blackstock, 36, in a country wedding at Blackberry Farms in Tennessee. The intimate affair replaced a huge fete the couple planned for October; instead of hundreds of guests, Kelly and Brandon wed in a ceremony that included Brandon’s two small children. Kelly told ABC earlier in the month that she was waiting until the end of her tour when the new family of four would be all together. “Brandon shares custody with his kids, so we are just waiting till we get them back, then we’ll take them and go,” Kelly said of her elopement plans. It seems Kelly is excited to be an instant mom, and wants to expand her family soon. “[Brandon is] a great dad, and we wanted to make sure it’s cool with [his kids], but they are really pumped about it….[the oldest] will be in her teens, so that’s kind of like a live-in baby sitter!” Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Blackstock and their entire brood!
Just when you though the Royal Baby excitement had faded into a distant memory, everyone’s favorite Royal Couple (Wills and Kate, naturally) are ramping up the excitement yet again with the Royal Christening! Prince George's Christening will mark his second official appearance on Wednesday in a private, 45-minute ceremony in the Chapel Royal at St. James’ Palace. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will preside over the ceremony, which will be attended by close friends and family of the royal couple. Unsurprisingly, William and Kate broke tradition by electing to hold the christening somewhere other than Buckingham Palace (the typical location for royal christenings.) In a mix of new and old traditions, little Prince George will be wearing a replica of the christening gown worn by more than 60 royals during their christening ceremonies, including Prince William; The original gown was created in 1841 for the Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter. We’ll be watching the Internet patiently for more adorable pictures of the newest prince!
Parenthood changes us fundamentally, and that’s no different for celebrities. James Van Der Beek, father to 3-year-old-Olivia, 19-month-old Joshua and a currently baking new baby with his wife, Kimberly, told PEOPLE that the responsibilities of fatherhood become so second nature, it’s hard to figure out what to do with free time! “The other day, I had a morning to myself in the house and I didn’t know what to do with myself… I did the dishes!” the Dawson’s Creek actor admitted. “I think fatherhood changes you from the inside out… it’s not this thing where you think, ‘Oh, I have to be responsible; I have to take more on.’ You just want to, almost automatically.” Now that’s what you call a family man!
