Justin Timberlake Rocks the Grammys; Katy Perry Breaks the Rules

Music took center stage on Sunday as the hottest artists gathered in the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the 55th Grammy Awards. Today we’re recapping the best stories and wildest moments of the awards ceremony, honoring accomplishments of musical performers for 2012.

As usual, this year’s Grammy Awards had some amazing performances. The show opened with Taylor Swift belting her hit “We’re Never Ever Getting Back Together” among black, white, and red circus performers. Taylor Swift, who is known as much for her romances as her hit songs, took a jab at her most recent love, One Direction’s Harry Styles, during the performance; She used a British accent during the mid-song spoken line of the song (check out the video here!)

Another highlight of the Grammy Award ceremony was Justin Timberlake’s performance of his comeback single, “Suit & Tie”. JT took us back in time, surrounding the stage with a classic big-band sound, a dapper tuxedo and a sepia tinted lens for the viewers at home. He was accompanied by Jay-Z for a portion of “Suit & Tie”, and then premiered his next single, “Pusher Love Girl” from his upcoming album, The 20/20 Experience.

Fashion, of course, was a big part of the evening. CBS issued a memo late last week for celebrities attending the ceremony, asking that “buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered” and that “see-through clothing” and “exposure to the genital region” should be avoided. Although the fashion choices were much more demure than in years past (Faith Hill wore a sophisticated peplum dress with delicate overlay and Solange Knowles wore a shimmering  emerald cap sleeve gown), other celebrities actively rebelled (Jennifer Lopez in a barely-there black gown and Katy Perry in an uber-low cut mint green Gucci dress.)

Katy Perry sat with her “date”, Allison Williams, star of “Girls”, at the Grammy Award ceremony, but spent some quality time with beau John Mayer Saturday night at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party. It looks like their romance is the real deal – John Mayer recently told CBS Sunday Morning that his relationship with Katy Perry feels “very human”.

Another celebrity couple “bumped” down the red carpet Sunday night with a tiny plus one! Model Amber Rose and her fiancé, hip hop artist Wiz Khalifa, are only three weeks away from their baby boy’s arrival. They are clearly embracing pregnancy – Amber Rose said she “felt good” and Wiz told reporters he wants her to “stay pregnant forever”. The couple also discussed plans for a natural birth, a decision they made after they watched Ricki Lake’s The Business of Being Born.

Did you watch the Grammy Awards? What was your favorite performance of the night?
