Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk are Expecting
In what may have been one of the best-kept secrets in the news industry, Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk have come out as lesbian women. The announcement of their sexual orientation was not all that Jenna Wolfe had to share on the Today Show March 27th, the couple who are both employed by NBC News, are also expecting a child. Jenna Wolfe, a weekend anchor for the Today Show is pregnant with a baby girl. Wolfe and Gosk, who is an NBC foreign correspondent, have been dating for three years and began discussing a family last year.
In an exclusive interview with People magazine Wolfe explains why she chose now to come out, she says, “This is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to us, but I don’t want to bring my daughter into a world where I’m not comfortable telling everyone who I am and who her mother is.” The couple goes on to say that they do plan to marry in the future, they both reside in New York where gay marriage is legal, and they are excited for their baby girl to arrive.
Wolfe will begin blogging about her pregnancy and is sure to share her journey in her role on the Today Show.
I think it is great to hear the joy any couple shares when they are announcing the impending birth of their child. The article does not go into how the baby was conceived and whether or not a sperm donor was used, which is really none of my business anyway. What I find sad about this situation is that the couple waited three years to come out. It saddens me that in this day and age that adults have to hide their love in fear of it affecting other people. I think that it is great that they are both coming out now and I love what they said about wanting their daughter to come into a world where they are comfortable with their sexuality. I just wish it was easier for the millions of men and women in their situation to make the same choice.
Are you surprised by the announcement?
