How to Survive Your Third-Trimester Summer
Having a baby with a summer birthday can come with some major benefits: you’ll get to plan fun outdoor parties later one, they’ll always be out of school on their birthday and you don’t have to worry about the cold and flu like you often do with a winter baby. The biggest drawback of having a summer baby though? You have to be pregnant (and huge) through your third trimester in the summertime. Most pregnant mamas are already hot and uncomfortable and, when you add in 90 degree days and the inability to fit into any swimsuit they own, you get one grumpy mama. While it might seem obvious that moms in hot weather need to drink more water, it’s remarkably easy to forget until you’re feeling overheated and faint. This summer, make sure you take a large bottle of water with you wherever you go and sip it as frequently as you can!
Hit the pool
While you might be feeling a little self-conscious about your big bump, don’t let it keep you away from the pool. The pool is a great place to cool off, relax, and spend time with your partner outdoors without overheating.
Check out a movie
Even if there’s nothing good showing, hitting a movie on a hot summer day might be just the thing you need to feel cool and refreshed. Movie theaters usually keep temperatures low so you can grab some popcorn, settle in, and enjoy the movie!
Eating well is important no matter what time of the year you’re pregnant but it can be especially important if you’re pregnant during the summertime. This summer make sure you’re eating small, frequent meals that consist of lots of healthy, yummy foods.
Seek out shade
If you must be outside in the heat of the day, do your best to seek out shade as much as possible. Not only do you want to avoid overheating but handling a sunburn on top of your ongoing pregnancy discomforts will be less than pleasant.
Ask for help
Even if you’re not the type to typically ask for help, if you find yourself feeling overheated or faint, don’t hesitate to ask the people around you for support. You can also ask for help to avoid getting into situations that might be too much, like activities that involve spending a lot of time outdoors or a significant amount of movement in the heat.
