How Much Weight Did You Gain During Your Pregnancy?

I have to tell you, I am having a rough time recovering after the birth of my third child.

He turns one (gulp) tomorrow and frankly, I don’t where the last year of my life has gone. Equally as troublesome, however, is the fact that I am nowhere near losing any of the baby weight.

And yes, I try to tell myself “it doesn’t matter” and “enjoy that baby while he’s little” and all that other weight-loss pep talk stuff, but when it comes right down to it, I’m still a little frustrated by how much weight I put on during my pregnancies.

So, in the vein of mother-to-mother sharing, some of my favorite bloggers agreed to spill the beans on just how much weight they gained during their pregnancies …

Everyday Family’s very own Devan McGuiness of Unaccustomed Chaos didn’t exactly have the typical pregnancy experience. After experiencing “terrible nausea and vomiting up until the day after delivery,” Devan reports a total weight gain of only 10 pounds (baby was 7lb 13oz) during her third pregnancy.

Paula Rollo, a blogger at Beauty Through Imperfection and a mother of two, gained 45 pounds with her first child and 50 pounds with her second. Here she is posing eight days before her son was born!

After gaining almost 50 pounds with her first pregnancy, Katie Fazio, a future nursing student, writer, and blogger at Millenial Mom, gained 35 pounds the second time around. “I was more careful this time,” Katie said.

Brittany Val of The Lily Field is no stranger to being open with her pregnancy weight gains. She wrote a lovely post about her new momma body and encourages readers to think of their bodies as “canvases of love.” Brittany happily reports that she “gained 60 pretty pounds with my first pregnancy and 55 with my second. And I've got lots of stretch marks to prove it!”

Perhaps my favorite blogger out there is Mandy of B Sides: The Amateur Mom. And although Mandy says that her 40+ pound weight gain “depressed” her the most in her third trimester. “I tried to walk every day,” explained Mandy. “I never drank coffee, or craved burgers or ice cream or anything. I knew my ballooning up was good for my baby, but I couldn't shake the self- defeating awareness that I no longer fit behind my car's steering wheel. Everyone was supportive and told me all the right things: “You look great!” “Your legs are so skinny!” “You're all belly!” It was months after baby when my husband gave me a straight answer: “Yeah, you had a huge butt.”

Ok, ok, so things are looking so bad for me anymore. After reading all of these lovely ladies’ stories, I have to say I’m starting to feel better. Not just because I’ve realized that every women experiences pregnancy differently—and gains weight differently—but that we are all each beautiful in our own way. Stretch marks and all. And in that vein of self-love, I give you…my pregnancy weight! I gained almost exactly 40 pounds with each of my three pregnancies; with my third, I topped in at almost 190 pounds on my 5’3” frame—not a pretty sight, but there you have it

    I have gained 37 pounds with my second pregnancy and now when my baby is 6 months old, I am back to my pre-baby weight and body shape.     I am 34 weeks and have gained about 35 pounds. I have been extremely active the entire pregnancy, walking up to 8 miles some days, weight lifting and yoga. So my tones arms and legs keep me feeling good. I do induge in foods that are not the best, but I figure most of the weight is needed. My thighs, butt and belly are where the weigh lies. I lost about 30 pounds through diet and exercise about 3 years ago and maintained that so the extra weight doesn’t bother me that much, until I see all my non-preggo friends post their summer bikini pics on fb 🙂

    I’m 32 weeks and have gained 45 lbs thus far. I have always been tiny, with a super speedy metabolism it was never hard for me to keep the weight off, but to be honest, I have never felt sexier!!!! I know my body and all the extra weight is exactly what my daughter needs to be healthy and happy, and that alone is enough reason to be okay with it! My boyfriend tells me all the time, the extra “chunk” is just more me to love.

    I’m 23, 5’2″ and was 100 pounds before my pregnancy. I was way too skinny so I considered my weight gain to “begin” at 120 which is my average size. I was a little over 175 on my delivery day. I was also EXTREMELY swollen (gained 3 shoe sizes) and my son was 8 lbs 3 oz. At my 2 week PP, I weighed 147. Now I’m 9 weeks PP and I’m still between 145 and 150. I exclusively pump, but I’m not very active as I can never find the time with a 2 month old!

    I just had my first child, a little girl back in May. I had alot of issues with my pregnancy but I gained a healthy 42 lbs during my pregnancy. After I had my daughter I lost 33 pounds within the first few weeks. At my 6 week appointment I had gained back 5 lbs putting me at 167. My pre-pregnancy weight was 152 so I am just 15 lbs away. I am hoping to lose a bit more after the 15 since during my pregnancy I learned I had a rare condition and the extra weight didn’t help me. Good luck to all you beautiful ladies, no matter your size or the amount gained your incredible.

    Pre-pregnancy I was 5’7 and weighed 122 lbs. The day of my delivery I was at 202 lbs. I gained 80 lbs. I basically said f* it and ate whatever was in sight, and it was amazing. Now I’m back at 132 lbs a year and a half after my daughter was born. Moral of the story, don’t eat animal cookies with frosting straight from the can!

  9. I was 154 lb before I was pregnant and when I delivered my daughter who weighed in at 7 lbs 5 oz and 21″ long. She’s three months and I have lost all of my pregnancy weight and some of the pre weight as well. I’m weighing 140 and loving every moment. I also exclusively breastfeed so I know that helped out a lot.

    I lost 62lbs during my firat and only pregnancy. I had a very severe case of hyperemesis. So bad so that my OBGYN told me if I were to have another child it would force him into retirement. My husband also lost during the pregnancy too

    I gained 63 pounds with my son (first and only pregnancy) and lost 65. But he was also a big baby and he weighed 9.5 when born so

    I was fortunate and only gained 16 pounds during my pregnancy and had lost 18 by the two week postpartum mark. However, I was already pretty heavy when I got pregnant. I have a theory that since I was already heavy, I didn’t need to give myself permission to eat more. I really didn’t change my habits all that much. But I still struggle to get weight off 9 years later!

    I gained 64 lbs with my girl. I was very fortunate at 6weeks after I had her I lost 44 lbs.

    With my first (a girl) i gained 50lbs n only lost bout 15 lbs after i gave birth, then two months later i got prego again. With my second child i actually lost 20lbs during my pregnancy so i went down to 149. After i had him i lost about another 10lbs putting me back on my weight start before i had even had kids. Almost 7 yrs later and Now im pregnant with my third and ive only gained 20lbs so far and with only 18dys left before hes born. We can not wait to meet him. My daughter and son are so excited as the due date comes closer.

    I gained 30 kgs in my first pregnancy with my son but was fortunate to loose 20kgs 2 months after giving birth. And with my second child my daughter I gained 15kgs and again I was fortunate to loose it within 6 weeks of giving birth.

    I feel fat and miserable! I put on weight before getting pregnant, so I went from a healthy 150 to about 180. Now I’m at 33 weeks, and I’m at 220. So, I’ve already gained forty pounds and I’m not done yet. I haven’t had too many emotional ups and downs yet, but I have started crying about my weight. I want her to be here and be healthy, but I also just want to start feeling good about myself again, too…

    With my first, I gained 42lbs. Lost 20lbs with BFing and walking about 2 months postpartum, then gained it all back after switching to the depo shot (never again!). Now I’m 15 weeks with my 2nd and I’ve lost 10lbs so far thanks to nausea!!

    My first I gained right around 50 lbs, my second I gained about 25, I’m now 19 weeks with my third and I’m still down a couple pounds from my pre pregnancy weight.

    I’m 16 weeks (almost 17) and haven’t gained more than two pounds. I’ve been eating very well and taking my prenatals so I’m not worried yet.

    First pregnancy: I was 16 years old. I started at 137 lbs ended at 162 lbs. I lost 10 lbs. just after giving birth to my daughter. Due to post partum depression, within a few weeks I was down to 127, after a few more weeks I was down to 108. After being put on meds I eventually went up to 145.
    Second pregnancy: I was 20/21 years old. I started around 145 lost between 25 and 30 lbs. before finally gaining and ended up at 162 lbs. I didn’t have the post partum depression and my weight stayed in the 150s after my second daughter.
    Third pregnancy: I was 23 years old. I dont remember what I started at, but at the end I was nearly 200 lbs. and my blood pressure was getting high. Since I was already considered full term, the doctor decided to induce labor and my 3rd daughter was born.
    Current pregnancy: Now age 32 and started at 213 lbs. Now at 28 weeks, I have lost 13 lbs and gained back 3 so far with my son.

    I’ve gained about 30 pounds during pregnancy and I am now 5 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight! But mind you, it took me over 4 months to wear my before pregnancy clothes 🙂

    I gained 7 pounds and lost 8 over all during pregnancy then lost over 20 once I gave birth. I don’t anticipate that ever happening again 🙂
