Holiday Shopping at the Dollar Tree

dollar bill and change

I will admit.  I am cheap.

Not because I want to be, but because I have to be.

See, around these parts, just because the holidays are here, does not mean that I don't have bills to pay or groceries to buy.

So, I use coupons, and try to save as much as I possibly can when it comes to holiday shopping. I forego the mall when at all possible, and look for sales online and otherwise to get all my shopping done.

I remember a few years ago, I went out looking for stocking stuffers for my kids and spent almost $100 to fill 4 stockings.  Really!?  Worst part is that my kids probably didn't remember one single thing that was in their stocking.  What a waste!

This year, on a trip to Dollar Tree to pick up a few things I realized that I could not only decorate my entire house for the holidays, but pick up trinkets for New Years Eve, stocking stuffers, and even quite a few gifts at the Dollar Tree.  For a $1! Yes, a dollar.  And with a little creativity and thought, I was able to buy things at the Dollar store that enabled my kids to create some pretty special handmade gifts for the people they love.

Even better, I was able to put together some gift baskets that turned out to be pretty amazing, purchase ALL of my wrapping paper, tape, and even some extra special holiday treats for the kids to eat and stick to my budget.

I know that during the holidays, we all want to give others extra special gifts. But extra special gifts don't necessarily come from expensive department stores.

The truth is that you don't have to break your budget, or put off paying your electric bill simply because you have things to buy.  If you have a Dollar Tree, or any Dollar Store in your area – go in and use your creativity to see what you can put together on a budget!

And please share!  We are all looking for ways to save money over the holidays. What tips and tricks do you have?
