Hemsworth and Pataky Expecting and Causing Controversy
Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky announced this week that they are expecting their first child. The couple married in 2010 and are expecting their baby this spring. In an interview with Hola! Magazine, Pataky said “Since it’s our first child, we don’t care if it’s a boy or girl. Our only wish is that it’s healthy.” However, one day later, Pataky and Hemsworth were photographed vacationing in St. Barts. In one of the photos, Pataky is seen riding down a waterslide off the top of a boat into the water, clutching her baby bump. The photo spurred hundreds of comments on the web from women who were shocked that the mom-to-be would put her baby at risk by riding a waterslide.
While our bodies are made to cushion babies as they develop, women are often cautioned to stay away from risky activities such as roller coasters, water slides, tubing, and other potential injury causing activities. While I don’t think pregnant women should stay holed up in their homes for 9-months, it is rather easy to minimize the potential of injury by being cautious. While riding down the slide, she could have fallen wrong, turned on her way down, or many other things that could have caused injury to herself and the baby. I know for me, I would have never taken the risk while pregnant.
So what do you think of her wild ride? Would you have done it or have you done worse while pregnant?
