Grandmother Gives Birth To Her Own Twin Granddaughters
I know there have been these types of stories floating around before, but this one really caught my eye.
Somewhere in the corn fields of Iowa, a 53-year-old grandmother has actually given birth to her own set of twin granddaughters.
I mean, there are dedicated grandparents and then there are dedicated grandparents.
Apparently, the grandmother, Susie Koziesk, herself a mother of four children, volunteered herself to carry her own grandchildren after learning that one of her daughters was not able to safely become pregnant.
Her daughter, Ashley Larkin, has a condition called pulmonary hypertension, which doctors have deemed makes it too risky for Ashley to conceive and carry a baby to term.

Susie approached her daughter after watching a TV show on surrogacy and deciding she wanted to give the gift of children to one of her own children.

Ashley's eggs were fertilized and frozen and Susie successfully carried her first granddaughter to term, back in June 2011. Last year, more embryos were implanted and a twin pregnancy resulted. (The article didn't specify if the twins were planned or the usual IVF practice of implanting more than one embryo was being practiced.) All of the procedures were done at the Mayo Clinic, where doctors gave Susie the go-ahead, based on her excellent health and previous complication-free pregnancies.

On the special relationship that her mother now has with her children, Susie had this to say to Good Morning America,
“I've always been close with my mom even before this, so that hasn't changed and I'm grateful she will have such a special bond with her grandkids.”
“I've always been close with my mom even before this so that hasn't changed and I'm grateful she will have such a special bond with her grandkids,” Larkin said.
Well, I'd say that's putting it a bit lightly, but I guess the kids will never really grasp their own origins until they're a bit older. Part of me just doesn't know what to think of this story, but on the other hand, as parents, we do say we would do anything for our kids.
And this is one mom who didn't mess around on that promise.
