Grab the Tissues and Watch This 10-Year-Old Help Deliver Her Baby Sister
For every parent, the moment their child meets their new sibling for the first time is a special one. In many of those photos, a newly minted big sister or brother sits on a bed holding a tiny brother or sister. But for Catherine Cook, that moment came when her 10-year old daughter Kayla had the opportunity to help deliver her baby sister, Everly, as she was being born. This was undoubtedly the beginning of a very special bond between these sisters.
Paulina Splechta, a birth photographer from Boca Raton, Florida, was there to capture it all. For Splechta this was a special experience as well since she had wanted her older daughter to be present at the birth of her little sister but was unable to because of medical issues she experienced during labor. She was thrilled for the chance of celebrating the wonder of birth as a family experience.
According to Splechta's interview with HuffPo, in spite of the planning prior to the birth Kayla had a moment just before delivery where she wasn't sure she was up for the job, but after her Dad offered to help her catch the baby she found the confidence she needed. Kayla was supervised by her Dad and midwife Laurie Gibbons the entire time.
