Get the Look! Christina Applegate

Layering clothing is a great style for most women because it can take the focus off some of those not so flattering areas while simultaneously accentuating our assets if done correctly. It's also a great way to pull some of those summer pieces we love so much into our fall and winter wardrobes. However,  I feel I should caution all of you ladies that there is a very fine line in layering to look stylish and chic without making yourself look sloppy and frumpy. This is the perfect ensemble worn by Christina Applegate that I've chosen as an example of good layering techniques.

Typically when layering you want to stick with the general rule of three garments, starting with the thinnest pieces of fabric to the heaviest as your last layer. There are several fun ways to give yourself a bold look with layering but this particular look is a more subtle way of making a statement with its contrasting colors.

In this look, Christina Applegate is wearing a longer fitted tank as the first layer with a nice flowing blouse over the top. Choosing a tank that is snug at the hips and a flowing top that is slightly cropped over the tank makes the hips appear smaller and will pull your waistline in.

For the recreation of this outfit, I chose a longer beige tank to serve as the first layer and added a flowing orange blouse with a collapsed top that is actually a little longer version of the blouse Christina is wearing. This blouse is sheer so I've included the beige tank to wear underneath. The beige in the tank will peek out of the top just a bit around the neckline adding contrast. I've used a pair of dark jeans with a rolled bottom and a cropped white blazer with a rolled sleeve. To complete the look I've chosen a pair of Michael Kors Palm Beach Espadrille wedge strappy sandals. This is a very flattering look for post baby or after the holidays (thinking ahead) like myself, when you are trying to hide that little bit of extra weight in the midsection. (Not that Christina Applegate has any extra weight in the mid-section to hide.) This will accomplish a fabulous and pulled together look.
