Flash Deal Sites: 3 Reasons They’re Worth the Inbox Clutter

Shopping online became my go-to method for purchasing gifts around the holiday season of 2009. I was sitting in a hospital bed, hooked up to an IV, hoping that our twins would sit tight and be good little ladies for another 10 weeks. And, while those little stinkers only made it about 5 weeks from the time I was admitted, it was enough to result in the UPS man ringing the doorbell at home on a regular basis. This may or may not have resulted in my husband wishing he had confiscated my credit card before I was admitted.  At that time, however, the Flash Deal sites that are popping up all over tempting my wallet now were not really available, (or I just wasn't aware of them) which was probably a good thing considering I am known to be an emotional shopper and that little hospital stay was a doozy.

Each flash deal site has their own method of organization, and you will find those that you like more than others, but they all have their merits and meet specific needs for their core shopping audience.

Now, years later, I have my inbox flooded with deal site emails daily, and I am pleasantly surprised that I have been able to keep it all in perspective and not blow our budget. I’m also surprised that they don’t annoy me as much as some of the other advertisement emails I receive.  I think the reason for this is because I find them more valuable for several reasons, three of which may convince you that you can handle the influx of email as well.

3 Reasons Flash Deal Sites Are Worth the Inbox Clutter

1. Flash Deal Sites Curate Items So You Don’t Have to Hunt Yourself

What I love most about flash deal sites is the fact that I can browse, or virtually ‘window shop,’ through a wide array of items I may not have come across otherwise without leaving home. As a mother to three young children, I do not have the time to shop as I once had pre-children.

Scott, from keekoo.com, a flash deal site that specializes in deals for Bump, Baby and Beyond,  had this to share regarding their site,

“Targeted flash sale sites like keekoo.com specialize in introducing consumers to amazing products… our buyers spend all their time searching trade shows  magazines, and the internet looking for great brands. Once discovered, they inspect and approve their products so we can finally bring them to our members.”

Each flash deal site has their own method of organization, and you will find those that you like more than others, but they all have their merits and meet specific needs for their core shopping audience. For example, right now, I’m on the hunt for some items to update our home a bit. Throw pillow here, new mirror there – so I’ve been browsing One Kings Lane and Joss & Main regularly for inspiration as well as great deals. I managed to find a lovely area rug, for a great price, which complements my home, and my sanity is still intact because I didn't traipse around town, with kids, while on the hunt for something suitable.

2. Most Offer Significant Discounts on Items

I have learned the art of deal hunting in recent years. With three kids, it's a must. When it comes to deal sites,  if I find something I really like,  I research that item and compare the deal site with prices elsewhere. Most often, the deal site does have the monopoly on the best price.  Let’s just say that I have a significant Washi Tape stash due to Plum District’s flash deal in recent months. Don't tell my husband.

As Scott from keekoo wisely stated, in reference to their deal site,

“We offer tremendous value and insider knowledge, and the only way to learn about these amazing deals and unique products is via ‘daily alert emails'.

The same goes for all of them, and it's something to consider when it comes to the goal of shopping for items at a discounted price.

3. Flash Deal Sites Expand your Gift and Product Knowledge Base

I frequent the same stores every week locally. So the brands that my family wears, eats, or purchases for gifts are often of the same variety if purchased there. With Flash Deal sites, I have been able to get back to personalizing my gifting approach, as well as give thought to adding some personality to my home.

Many of the deal sites will theme their sales to fit holidays, hobbies, a specific décor style, or a personality type. For example, last week, Joss & Main sent me a Golf Lover’s Sale and it had a fantastic set of gift options that my husband would love, like prints of old golf courses.  Right now One Kings Lane has Home Accents for the Adventurous, which includes sailboats, retro cars, and an antique globe. The folks at One Kings Lane shopped perfectly within that niche and took the guesswork out of finding something for a loved one who fits within that personality type, making gift giving a cinch.

When it comes to receiving an inbox full of deals, you do have to exercise some restraint and keep it all in perspective budget-wise.  But, when you're getting great discounts on sites like Zulilly, Keekoo, Joss & Main and the like,  for fantastic baby and kid brands as well as rare gift finds or home decor items – it's worth the ‘window-shopping.' It can be simply informative, but if you like to plan ahead, find that perfect gift for a loved one, or discover new brands that you might not have known otherwise, flash deal sites are perfect.
